“I'm a bit let down :(”
Reviewed 18 March 2009

I think that I have been spoiled. I' m afraid that after you have been a guest in other B&B's, Walnut Street won't meet your expectations.

The house itself is lovely. The outside patio areas and such need to be taken better care of; they were dirty looking (the back door ones) and were not inviting. The back yard area was the first thing we saw when we parked and walked up the sidewalk to check in. It did not encourage wonderful first impressions.

The room was okay, but while tastefully decorated and comfortable, there were maintenance issues (the TV shelf is coming away from the wall and paint is chipping everywhere) and they did not use B&B quality linens on the bed. The mini bar was well stocked. They advertised the room to be one of the quietest in the House but if that room was their idea of quiet I would have hated to stay in the other rooms.

The staff was friendly enough. They smiled and were very very welcoming but the whole place felt more like an old hotel and not a B&B. It did not feel "homey"; it felt commercialized.

The breakfast was very good and check out was a breeze.

I think if this is your first experince with a bed and breakfast you will like it. If you have stayed in other B&B's you will probably be a little let down. I hate to say that - I really do - I just feel our money would have been better spent at another location.

Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate your input and will work to make your next stay better because of it. Our 115 year old buildings are in need of constant repair and paint. During your stay, in March, the lawns and property looked a bit worn down from the winter, and the west side of the Inn was being scraped and primed for paint (we are finishing the last walls now!) We hope you will come back when things green up and the flower gardens are at their best. Your input has hastened our maintenance projects and we welcome you back!

This was a business trip, but the hotel site for our convention was booked full, nearest chain a mile away, so booked this B&B just across the street. The big hotel was $130 +/-, this B&B was about $90, so my boss will be pleased with the expense. The place is well decorated with antiques, fresh home made cookies in the room, a minifridge with complementary soft drinks in the upper parlor. The staff was pleasant and friendly, check in/out was easy, breakfast was great, served on my schedule. Will visit again next time.

I found the Walnut Street Inn to be a haven of rest from
the maddening crowds of the modern world.
The accomodations were comfortable and the staff was
helpful and friendly without being obtrusive and over-
bearing.
The food was excellent and nicely presented.
It was a pleasant change of pace from the sterile surroundings
of modern business hotels.

My friend and I each booked a room in the main house on the 2nd floor. It was so nice, because the 3 rooms upstairs have their own living room. The McCann room and the Rosen rooms were both lovely. They each have their own bath and little refrigerator and coffee maker. Both mornings the breakfast was delicious. They checked with us the night before to be sure we liked the menu.
The McCann room has a nice gas fireplace that kept me toasty.

We spent our first Valentine's Day together at the Walnut Street Inn in the Findley Suite. The Findley is located two houses down from the main inn and is a lovely, private get away. The room is spacious and beautifully decorated. There is a very large four poster feather bed that is incredibly comfortable.

The staff was very accomodating of our special requests for the evening and put champagne and rose petals in the room and lit candles all over the suite when we were away for dinner. It was romantic and comfortable. We would stay there again!

  • Liked — The staff was very accomodating.
  • Disliked — I would prefer a solid door instead of a swinging door for the commode area.

We just returned from our stay at the Walnut Inn and rushed to write what a pleasant experience we had there. It is a charming building with lovely rooms and an excellent location. The staff is warm and attentive and they made us feel welcomed. Great breakfasts, a beautiful room (the Robertson), and a nightly baked treat made our visit to Springfield an excellent one!

As fellow innkeepers, we know of the work that is involved in offering guests the type of experience we received at the Walnut Inn and we applaude them in a job done very well. We will gladly return!

I surprised my husband for Valentine's Day with a night in the Danzero Room at the Walnut Street Inn. It was PERFECT!!!! We sat outside at the little bistro table outside our room and sipped coffee. The room itself was BEAUTIFUL and what a GREAT jacuzzi for two!!! The staff was exceptional and breakfast was WONDERFUL!!! I had another surprise planned while we were away to dinner....when we arrived back at our room the whole room was filled with candles and there were chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. After a very stressful couple of months it was just what we needed. If you are going to be in the Springfield area and need someplace to stay do not hesitate for a second to stay here!
