“Great alternative to cabins in Glacier Park”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

Loved our stay here - I ditto the many great reviews - my friend and I stayed in the bunkhouse for 5 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Great view from the porch to the eastern plains - had friendly dogs and cats visiting as well as the local alpacas/llamas. The hosts Janice and Colin made you feel like family ! We did not want to leave. The bunkhouse does not have running water in it (does have other amenities like refrigerator and microwave though) and you use a very clean porta-potty outdoors - we just used showers at the many campgrounds in and out of Glacier Park on our way home from hiking. It worked very well for us. I will definitely stay here again !

A gem of an accommodation on the east side of Glacier! We stayed in the Chaps and Spurs bunkhouse for three nights––very simple, but very enjoyable. The bunkhouse has electricity but no running water thus necessitating trips to a very clean nearby port-a-potty, but we didn't mind at all. Our nights were spent sitting on the porch, watching the local ranchers herd cattle and horses across the fields and the ranch's resident alpacas graze outside our front door. The views to the nearby Many Glacier area were gorgeous at dusk. Best of all were our hosts, Janice and Colin who were easily some of the nicest folks we met in Montana. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Room Tip: At $55 a night, the Chaps and Spurs bunkhouse is a deal and a half if you don't mind not having...

Extremely comfortable accommodations, with an excellent kitchen and a stunning view of the mountains and plains. We stayed in the largest home -- spacious and not at all spartan. Quite accessible to the Many Glaciers entrance to the park, and much better value than the lodges and motels in the park. Tons of wildlife on the roadsides and in the park. We would absolutely stay there again. The caretaker, Janice, was wonderfully welcoming and went out of her way to make sure that we had everything we needed.

Guests should be aware that wifi is available but limited in terms of bandwidth and that only Verizon phones seem to work on the east side of the park. If you are coming in from West Glacier/Columbia Falls, stop at a supermarket to buy most of what you'll need for the days you'll be in the East -- food options are limited, since it's pretty rural.

If you enjoy a little seclusion, you should check out the Paul Ranch. We stayed in the Wagon Wheel Trailer for 5 nights in early July. The place had excellent views of Glacier's mountains, comfortable beds, a covered deck for enjoying meals outside, and entertaining alpacas! We had been to Glacier previously and bounced around different lodges (4 places). This time we picked one place and it was awesome. The ranch is in Babb, only a few minutes from Many Glacier and St. Mary's entrances to Glacier National Park. Janice, the hostess, made sure we got comfortably settled in--even though we got there late! She also cleaned every day--and even did our dishes! We would definitely stay at Paul Ranch on our next visit to Glacier.

We just spent 5 nights with another couple in the Elk Willows house. It is fantastic. What a beautiful site sitting on top of the hill overlooking the plains with mountains in the distance. The house itself is a gem - 3 bedrooms, completely stocked kitchen, den and separate LR area, 2 baths. The first morning there an elk was standing about 25 yds away from the deck! Very convenient to Many Glacier, Waterton, East Glacier and Two Medicine areas. Janice the caretaker is a great host. We sent her a grocery list ahead of time and she bought food for us at the larger store in Browning for a small extra fee. (Stores around Babb are very small, limited items and expensive). I highly recommend this rental. We would go back there in a flash! This is a great area to be in to explore Glacier!

My wife and I spent a night in the Chaps and Spurs Bunkhouse in mid-September. Janice and Colin were gracious hosts and we chatted amongst the animals. It was so nice to see and hear the cows and coyotes. The night was clear and the Milky Way and tons of stars were out. A great base camp for trips into Glacier/Waterton. So much better than the standard cookie cutter hotels. So glad I found this place. We will be back for sure and recommend it to everyone visiting the area. Hope to return soon.

My husband and I had the privilege to stay at the Elk Willows house for 2 nights in September. The first thing we noticed when we arrived at the house is how peaceful the area is. The house is located on a ranch and sits on a hill which allows for the fabulous views in every direction. The alpacas and llama that stay on the ranch were fun to see everyday. This house has everything you will need plus more! There is a great deck with a grill, satellite tv, washer/dryer, fully stocked kitchen, dishwasher, microwave, a full library of books and even binoculars. They provide daily housekeeping. The location can't be beat for exploring the East side of Glacier National Park. The house is located close to Many Glacier, St Mary and about an hour to Waterton. On top of all this Janice and Colin, the caretakers, are fabulous. They were always happy to help out and we loved talking to them and hearing stories about the area. I highly recommend a stay at Paul Ranch and hope to be back soon. This place is a piece of heaven.
