This lodge is well located about an hour from Yellowstone.
Great bike riding trails along the river, cool mountain ski resort nearby.
Rooms are spacious and clean and nice hot tub outside.
We loved the town and the cafes and bars in walking distance.
We rented mountain bikes and had a great ride. Waterfall nearby
and beautiful log cabin church.

Room Tip: View of the mountains good in second floor rooms.

We stayed at the River Rock Lodge on 07/16/2012. We were originally booked to stay on 7/12/2012, but due to a death in the family, we were forced to reschedule. SALLY (desk) was extremely helpful in re-booking our stay. She was professional, compassionate and very helpful.
When we arrived in Big Sky on 7/16, the property was easy to find and parking was plentiful and convenient. As we entered the lodge, there was a tour group of about 10 at the desk checking in. Most were talking all at once, and had some difficulty understanding English. ANDREA (desk) was VERY patient in answering their questions, trying to accommodate their requests, and at one point told the group that she would assist them carrying their luggage upstairs.
Our room large, clean and comfortable. Beds, linens and pillows clean and very comfortable. Very nice robes hung in closet area.
We took advantage of the hot tub. I was glad that I checked it out before dark, as there wasn't any lighting around the hot tub area after dark. The hot tub was large, clean and a good temperature... not too hot or too cool.
Continental breakfast the next morning was very nice, and had a good variety of breads/muffins/cereal, as well as juice, milk, coffee, teas.
I would most definitely stay at the River Rock Lodge again, and longer. The diversity of things to do in Big Sky will bring me back!

Ten years ago I worked in Big Sky and practically lived at the River Rock Lodge. Little has changed since then: the service is good, the rooms are ok with nice lodge-style furnishings, but the king bed was as cheap as they get and not very comfortable - a cost cutting measure, I assume, and definitely NOT the place to cut corners. The common area is very comfortable and intimate, the breakfast is good with hot and cold cereals and pastries (continental breakfast style) but there is only one table that seats four and other than that you have to find places to sit or take the breakfast back to your room. The lodge does come with free wifi, free parking, and most rooms look through quaking aspen or evergreens. There's no real views to speak of, but the location is next to the new Town Center, just two miles from Highway 191, and about 7 miles down the hill from the Big Sky ski area. A good location for sure.

We stayed in room 109. Sorry,, but we did not take pics. However, I would like to add that the photos don't do the rooms justice. They are roomy and very clean.
There is a fridge that works terrific, a small sink and coffee pot all set up in a nice size bar/counter area.
The bathroom is basic, but clean with an ample towel supply.
A large closet/dressing area with a full sized ironing board and iron and hooks for coats, etc. plenty of storage for clothing in the tv/armoir
There is a DVD player also. It maybe a VCR/DVD combo. I didn't check closely.
The windows out of our room faced a parking lot. Not a big deal at all. This would usually bother us, but for some reason it was ok. The breeze and aspen trees just outside made it ok. (probably the reasonable room rate helped too)
Continental breakfast was served. Basic, but nice to have due to very limited options for breakfast.
I would have given this hotel 5 out of 5, but the front desk staff were...different. Hard to put your finger on it exactly. Not rude, but certainly not friendly. I am talking about every single one of them. We saw about 5 different ones during our stay. We never received a hello or good bye any time we passed through the lobby. Not even at check out. And I quote..."checking out ?" answer: yes. That's it! We stayed 6 days, so it wasn't like we were just passing through.
Would I stay here again ? Most definitely.

Room Tip: Even # rooms face the front. There is a restaurant/bar that has music Friday & Sat nights. You h...

Driving distance from Big Sky and Moonlight Basin. We highly recommend checking out Moonlight Basin. The lodge is near all the most of the local restaurants by walking distance.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the second floor.

We recently spent 3 nights at River Rock Lodge and found it very comfortable and clean. As others have said the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and offer a fridge and wet bar. The location is convenient to the mountains for skiing as well as restaurants for dinner. We will definitely be repeat customers!
