“Outdated but ok”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Since we had a good deal for this place ($150 for a room) I consider this place as OK, but if I would have paid the regular price of around twice as much then the review would be way worse. The entrance to the hotel looks stunning, so is the reception desk. But as soon as you start looking at other things (cracked floors in all swimming pools, cracking floors, thin walls, outdated bathrooms, absence of air conditioning) then there is only 1 conclusion to make: this hotel is highly outdated and really needs some maintenance/upgrading before it is really worth the money!

Very friendly, helpful and approachable staff. I must admit I did little research about the hotel as it was at discounted rates for a conference.

The good: staff, clean, good location, good wifi.

The lacklustre: small kitchenette with limited appliances - only a tiny fridge and a drip coffee machine that had no carafe, but this wasn't a problem as I prefer espresso. Space is limited, but a small toaster and kettle would certainly fit and be a welcome addition. Sleep quality below average, principally due to the pillows. No combination or sleeping position gave me a good night sleep with no neck pain.

I was in Big Sky earlier in July for a business meeting, and stayed at the Huntley Lodge. Squeaky floors. Thin walls. No air conditioning (but there is a 12" oscillating fan.) A/C is not needed most of the time, but room can be very hot on a sunny day in the summer. Although the room and the lodge in general, were clean, the housekeeping can be shoddy at times. For example, bed is sloppily made (every day). Trash may be missed now and then. Check-in time is 5pm. So if you arrive early, you could be waiting a while for you can unwind. As I was there for business, one thing I needed that was not available was a speaker phone at the desk. There was only one phone by the bed so it was very awkward to hold teleconference in the room. Overall, my experience was it was an average hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the ground floor. With squeaky floors above you, and thin walls all around, you may b...

We are disappointed to hear that we did not exceed your expectations during your recent stay at the Huntley Lodge. Please know that we are addressing the housekeeping issues. The Huntley Lodge is historic, located in a mountain climate and does not have the comfort of modern air conditioning. We appreciate your suggestion to have conference/speaker phones available for guests, great idea. We hope you will visit Big Sky Resort again in the future.

Kind Regards,
Big Sky Resort

Lobby and staff are incredible. Rooms, not so much. We had a 3 queen loft suite, so our family of six could all sleep in a bed. The fanciness of the hotel stopped the second the cowboy bellhop opened the door to the room. Carpet was pulling up in a weird spot so that you were constantly tripping over it, no AC, shoe rack in disrepair, blinds literally falling off the window upstairs, toilet seat was cracked, beds were 'meh' in terms of comfort, chain lock on the door broken, bathroom functional but not particularly impressive (except for the good water pressure). Toiletries were plain dial soap and shampoo and conditioner was unremarkable. Breakfast was included and was varied and good. All in all, we felt that it was overpriced for what it was - an old room in need of maintenance.

This place is dirty, they clean only the basic stuff, do not look under the bed or behind the night stands. The place has no air conditioning and overall, everything is very outdated. We had a coffee spill on the floor when we arrived. Nobody cleaned it for 5 days. The room is hot on the third floor, try to get a first floor room if you are so desperate to stay here. Lower level rooms are a bit cooler. Overall, this place is not paradise. Try to go somewhere else.

Room Tip: not on the third floor

Maid service is terrible; I walked into my room with the bed sloppily made. The maid did not restock the shower amenities, and I had to request them from the concierge. The bedsheets had suspicious stains on them (dark purple and red stains). The maid also did not pick up the dirty towels that we had left on the floor.

I've noticed the housekeeping staff are very young--they really need to be trained better.

Room Tip: Bottom floors are cooler than the top floors.

Like other reviews said, it can be loud in the room. You can definitely hear other people talking in the hall, taking showers. But overall, the front desk is nice and welcome. Room is clean with all the necessary stuff. TV with good channels, yes, espn for the World Cup !! As a heavy sleeper, I think the place is ok. Plus you can go all these activities, zip lining, tram to the lone peak, rafting in gelatin river.
