A fine refurbished old hotel, with interesting old photos hanging around and good ambiance. The bar is welcoming, with some good beers on tap and excellent fried trout on the menu. Breakfast comes with the room, but there's no choice of what you get. We had good fried eggs, underdone pancakes, and ridiculously uncooked bacon. Breakfast not withstanding, I'd stay there again, but I would ask for special breakfast service.

Room Tip: We had room # 12, which has a private bath and a separate bedroom.

This hotel is an authentic recreation of a period hotel. Old fashioned bathrooms, sitting rooms at the stair landings, gorgeous photographic art work scattered throughout. Thankfully, beds, heating and a/c and plumbing has been upgraded. But all the character of an old fashioned hotel remains, including great service and lovely restaurant. My sisters and I truly loved this hotel and the community.
(We travelled in June, but it was an earlier date than was listed here, so had to choose one of their given dates.)

The Grand Hotel is truly Grand! It is a historic preservation hotel that has been restored The owner has managed to keep much of the original look intact while adding modern upgrades such as Cable TV and air-conditioning. The rooms are quaint and furnished with some antiques Some rooms have private baths There is a central shower/bathroom area with ample facilities, both modern and antique. There are even 2 claw foot tubs and pull chain toilets. There were lots of toiletries, and clean towels. There is a self serve fresh ground coffee station with assorted teas and cocoa There is a fantastic posh saloon type bar. Their included breakfast was wonderful! We had fresh strawberry pancakes, eggs, sausage and another day eggs Benedict They have a restaurant that is heavily frequented by the locals for upscale dining. The staff really went out of their way to be courteous and helpful

Room Tip: We stayed in room 12 that was ideally located in a quiet corner away from saloon and resturant

We were told about the Grand Hotel by friends that were caught in a winter storm on their way home from a visit in Denver. Last fall we took a trip into Southern Montana with the intention of staying at the Grand. Although it's rustic we found our room more than adequate, comfortable and quiet. They have a neat bar and a wonderful restaurant, both of which gave great value. We would definitely stay there again.

Big Timber is in a beautiful area and lucky to have this old historic and remodeled hotel. We come for the dining though. Very good for rural America! Quasi gourmet really, this is just off I-90 an beats the heck out of any fast food franchise!

A well preserved and updated facility. Some of the furniture in the room was well used but everything was clean and functional. The dining room was a wonderful experience (a little pricy) but a great place to eat. Walk around the downtown for a walk through history after your wonderful dinner. This is an excellent starting point for touring Yellowstone.

One night stop on way from Glacier to Yellowstone. We wanted to cross the Beartooth Highway so this wonderfully old fashioned hotel in the small town of Big Timber made for a great place to break the journey.

We "splurged" ($100) on one of the bigger rooms and found ourselves in a large suite complete with fridge and comfy settee. Great value and we only heard a couple of trains in the night so the bed must have been comfortable.

Amazing food as well considering we were in a tiny town. The chef Amy (who also cooked the tasty breakfast - included in the price) came round and made sure all was well. You could have mistaken her for a short order cook in a Manhattan diner but she cooked like an angel. Fine bar to boot with a wide range of beer and wine and to complete our Saturday, a trio of country musicians were entertaining locals and visitors alike in the small reception area.

The sort of place that you think has long disappeared but mercifully hasn't. We wanted to stay longer!

Room Tip: The more expensive rooms are still very cheap. Room 10 at the back is really a suite.
