I love the food, always great service. Live music in the bar is a relaxing touch. BEST Margaritas in Montana!

We have tried Rio Sabinas twice now and ordered a variety of items on the menu, enchiladas, shrimp saltillo, tacos, chicken gabacho, and burritos. Both times we visited the food was not very good but the service has been exceptional. The first visit was shortly after they opened so we thought we would give it some time and try again. Unfortutnately the second trip was not any better. The food is rather bland and everything tastes pretty much the same. The enchilada sauce is like eating straight chili powder. The chicken gabacho tastes like italian chicken parmesan. The shrimp saltillo is overpowered by the bacon. The chips are good but the salsa is not. We will not return.

Great ambiance, bland salsa, ok huevos rancheros, i expect at least a selection of spicy, medium or something along those lines for salsa

Stopped here on our way through. Food was EXCELLENT! To bad we don't have one in our Home town. If we go back through Billings again we will defiantly stop here again

We hadn’t been to Rio Sabinas in a few years (since it opened), so, while shopping in Billings last week, decided it would be a good place to go for a quick lunch, as our first experience there was very good. Don’t know what happened in the few years since our first trip, but this lunch was definitely disappointing. Let’s start with drinks. We were so pleased to see that drink prices were listed on the drinks menu (so many other restaurants have stopped listing their prices – it’s like what are they trying to hide? – so, unless the price is listed, we won’t order a drink. And if we do ask the servers, they rarely know the prices, and have to go look it up.). So, we ordered the house margaritas - $5.00 seemed a reasonable price for a drink. The drinks were tasty, but mighty small (lots of ice), and really, not a good value, even at $5.00. I ordered the chile verde, which (the menu said) consisted of tomatillos, green chiles, ground pork, and sour cream. When the order arrived, it was HUGE …. But not very tasty. And, it seemed as if it had cooked all day long, and everything was just indistinguishable mush. Which would have been okay, if it had had some flavor – but it was just bland. Michael tasted it and said the same thing (and then I read previous reviews here and saw several others comment on how bland the food was, so I guess it wasn’t just us). Michael ordered the four-cheese chile relleno. It came with rice and charro beans. Again, while a large serving, it just didn’t have much flavor. And the last time we were there, we both raved about the charro beans – we’d never had beans that good before. Not this time. I have to say that the best thing about the meal were the chips and salsa, the chips especially. I think they may make them there? Anyway, they were thin, crispy, warm, and tasty. And oh – the service. We had a very good and attentive server, but it’s too bad the food she served us wasn't any better. Also, the décor is fun and funky – especially the bar area – but fun décor doesn't make up for poor food. The other thing we would have liked to have seen were some Monday-Friday lunch specials. Other restaurants in Billings have great specials in the $5 to $7 range. We spent $36.00 for just bland and mediocre food, and don’t think we’ll be returning.
