We arrived without a reservation after seeing an ad for this place at our hotel. We were greeted graciously and the hostess found us a spot in one of the old stlye banquettes where you can see and be seen. We faced out toward the amazing chandelier in the middle of the dining area that is was made up of many tiffany style lamps. We loved it. And then the food came---we were totally unprepared for the way the appetizers and salad are served. The salad was crisp and the appetizer choices surprising. Our entrees were cooked perfectly. My husband had the vegetarian pasta and pronounced it the "best I've ever had". How could it not be, it was drenched in butter! He chose the spumoni and I had a lovely huckleberry ice cream for dessert.
In reading other reviews, I see the locals might consider this an expensive meal. Not so to anyone from the Seattle area. Our total bill came to less than one person's at a nice restaurant here.
Our waiter took time to explain things even though it was a very busy night and he was taking care of several large tables. It was obviously a well loved spot by the locals. The parking lot was full.
If you can't get a table the bar menu looked most enticing.

We've been going to Lydia's for over 20 years. The next generation owners have changed things and not to the better. Prices are up. The wine we like is now $20 more per bottle and there are gambling machines in what was once the coat room. What once was an exceptional value is now only average. We used to drive down every couple of months from Helena, probably not so often anymore.

The steak was perfectly cooked but the pasta was underdone.

We live in Butte and go to Lydia's several times each year. It is our go-to restaurant for special occasions. The meal we had last weekend was great, as usual. They give you plenty of appetizers, salad, main course , and accompaniments such as spaghetti and ravioli, and french fries. The meal is followed by ice cream. Unlike many restaurants, they do not charge for coffee or tea. The dim lighting makes for a relaxed atmosphere. You wouldn't want to spoil a Lydia's meal with bright lights and annoying music. Their prices are on the high side, but considering what you are served it is well worth the cost. If you leave hungry, it is your own fault.

Old and stale, just what I wanted. We stopped overnight in Butte and decided to drive down to see if Lydias was still around. It was after 8 pm and a little late for a Montana town. However we really just wanted to have a drink and a light snack. It has been nearly 20 years since we have been to Lydia's and it still looks and feels the same. We ordered some drinks, filet and mushrooms appies, all were great.

Classic, classy place. If you don't like steak and don't like Frank (Sinatra that is) ambiance then skip Lydia's and go to one of the chain places. If you want to go back in time and have a great steak, try it, you'll like it.

Jodi was great in the bar. Many employees have been there, 10, 15, 20 years, that says a lot about a place.
