“All around great dinner experience”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

The service was exceptional. The food delicious and served as ordered. The side dishes of ravioli, spaghetti, peppers, beets (yum), cheese & salami, scallions and sweet potato salad make for a very interesting meal. All the dishes are refillable at no cost. There is no reason to go away hungry.

“Second best in Butte”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Although the Uptown Cafe is more sophisticated cuisine, Lydia's is very good, especially the Italian dishes. Excellent salad and large portions, very well cooked and presented. The wait staff is attentive and well meaning and it's a good value.

“Great food”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

we had the chicken and halibit - both very good. I love you get anchovies with your cesaer salad. You get salad, relish tray, spagetti (love the white spaghetti), salami and cheese, peppers, green onions, beets and then dessert. Very good meal and great prices.

“Opportunity lost - the restaurant of last resort.”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

The staff were very professional and friendly.
We brought family who were visiting from North Carolina to dinner to Lydia's. This is absolutely the worst dinner I have ever had. It was embarrassing to subject our family to such a pathetic dining experience The salad was already at the table when we arrived. The sweet potato salad was already starting to desiccate. The ? bread sticks which were probably from ages past were packaged in plastic wrappers which should have been a dead-giveaway. The lettuce was wilted and looked like it had been picked out of the discarded produce from the supermarket. Appetizers we ordered were abysmal - crab meat and horseradish more horseradish and ?cream/mayo than crab; the toast was pan fried in oil which was rancid. The crab cakes were wafer thin one could barely taste the crab. The ravioli was probably the only acceptable part of the meal. The spaghetti appeared to have been dumped out of a Chef Boyardee can.
Since we had taken our relatives to a "Crab Feast/Fest" our entrees were crab-centered. The snow crab had probably been on a starvation diet long before becoming an entree. There was barely any meat on the legs/ The lady who waited on us had assured that the shells would be cracked which they were not. I can see why - the shells were soft and difficult to crack. We spent the better part of an hour trying to extract the meagre pieces of crabmeat in the legs. The stuffed shrimp were underwhelming. The desserts were not bad.
At the end of spending $125 (dinner for four with no drinks) we wished we would have trusted our instincts and not gone there.
The restaurant was full and the only explanation we could come up with was that Butte is a dying town and does not have too many dining facilities.
A dinner at one of the diners such as Denny's or Perkins would have been a far more acceptable choice. Even Mac Donald's or Arby's might have have been a far better choice.
The stained glass windows were lovely but everything else about the decor was sad, tired and dated. Lydia's might serve as a good setting for a 50's movie.
