“Cringe-Awe!!”
Review of Berkeley Pit

Berkeley Pit

While, I have seen the pit once before, I felt that my 10 year old daughter, who is a Montana native, (I am not a Montana native), should see this left over relic from one of the most interesting sites that I have ever seen. What I can say is it is monstrously big and toxic to a huge degree. After all, it is a Superfund site! I guarantee it is nothing you have seen before and hopefully never will again! A absolute must see if you are ever in Montana.

Pay your $2 in the gift shop, and step out the door, through the tunnel to the viewing area. It is interesting to hear the short video (touch button on railing), and watch the trucks come in and out of the mine to your right.
The gift shop has a lot of different items.
You can tell the clerk had a strong opinion on the mining. She said that all the copper from the mine goes overseas, and none stayed there.

our tour guide was amazing and was able to tell us many interesting things about the mining history and tied it into the views of the pit

Just stand at the edge and ponder the magnitude of this thing. It's massive on many levels and worth the small fee to go through the tunnel.

Once you enter the walkway to the pit, it's only a 1 minute walk to the edge of the pit where you can see how the water is slowly rising and will some day flow over the top. It's a great deal for $2 entry fee.
