“Diamond in the Rough”
Reviewed 22 September 2009

My husband and I have recently stayed in this Ranch Inn for two nights on our trip to Yellowstone National Park. A diamond in the rough, a true gem in Cooke City and on the foothills of Beartooth Absaroka Wildernes! Superb service, clean, comfortable, and a perfect spot to stay in after a long day of fly fishing on the pristine lakes and creeks nearby! We just love the hot breakfast served everyday. How we wished we could have stayed longer. But at least now, we know where to stay if we ever go back in the area. We truly enjoyed fly fishing on Soda Butte and Slough Creek on Lamar Valley, and not to mention, the lakes through Beartooth/Clark's Fork! Thanks Liz for making our stay memorable and relaxing! We can't wait for our next trip out West again!!!

My wife and I have utilized the services of Skyline Guest Ranch on two different occasions. Our first experience was a one-day pack trip up Slough Creek with Luke. Boy what an experience! God done real good there. A week after that trip we were back in the Yellowstone area and we tried to book another trip but alas they were booked up. A couple years later we booked four nights at the Skyline B&B, Liz Jackson was a wonderful hostess. That year we did two one-day pack trips. The first was back to the upper end of the second meadow of Sloug Creek with Luke. Once again great dry fly fishing to big cuts. The second was into the Yellowstone River canyon with Vic. Good thing those horse did not want to fall as much as i did. Good, not great fishing there.

I cannot say enough great things about Skyline. However, i am sad that Luke felt a need to move on to other pastures.

This place is so special in the winter I almost hate to write a review. I don't want to get shut out next time I come to town. Our group of four stayed here on a Saturday night in February. Cooke City is famous for snowmobiling at this time of the year, whcih scares off some cross-country skiiers. But, in fact, this is an ideal place for skiiers and all nature lovers. There are tremendous, little-used trails right inside Yelllowstone. We skiied there, then drove a few miles to Cooke City where Vic met us with his snowmobile for the 3-mile trip to the lodge, a very comfortable, exceptionally clean place set in the woods, well away from the road. (We skiied down into town the next day while Vic towed our gear.) A hot tub on the deck was perfect after a day of skiing. Dinner, family style, is avaialble for a modest price . All must reserve the same dinner, but it is wonderfully presented and comes with soup or salad and a delicious dessert. A very full breakfast is also included with the room. The rooms have one or two queen beds (at least one also has a loft for kids) and are very comfortable. A great living room for reading or games and a ping pong table upstairs make this the perfect place for a family.
