On our recent stay at Cooke City, our snowmobile group stayed at the Soda Butte Lodge. We were somewhat reluctant due to some of the bad reviews, but because of all the conveniences under one roof, thought we'd try it out anyway. SO glad we did!! The rooms were clean the food and service were wonderful and we even got a discount on all our room charges for staying there. We already made reservations for next year.

We have stayed here before, but this review is just for our most recent visit. We went here with relatives for lunch and enjoyed it very much. The lady waiting on us was very nice and visited with us as it wasn't too busy at lunch time (everyone was out snowmobiling). The food was good and reasonably priced. We sat next to the big windows with the nice views and had a great lunch. Certainly not the newest hotel, but rustic and just how we like it.

Breakfast at the restaurant was good. The bar was nice with a scenic view. The room was old, furniture dirty, lighting was dim, but bed was comfortable.

Stayed here and during my stay there was a crazy barking german sheperd that was locked up in a car all night. Bark, bark, bark, bark.... ALL. NIGHT. LONG. At my wits end, I called the front desk to see if perhaps they might be able to speak with the owners of the dog and maybe get the pooch to settle down. The male desk clerk who answered the phone told me "He was going to go whisper to the dog and ask the dog to quiet down." Mr desk clerk was dead serious. He could have cared less if the dog kept me or the entire guest population up all night.

Internet connection was also extremely spotty here. Charged $1.00 to call a 1-800 number. Really? That is so 1980.

Terrible guest service which earns this place a big fat one star (should be a zero, but I have to click a star to get the review to post) and a little review or two on the big Internet that will hopefully persuade someone else to do business elsewhere.

On a couples motorcycle trip, we had issues finding lodging after an unexpectedly long day in Yellowstone (traffic jams!). We rolled into town and tried to find lodging. Sadly, everything was booked. That's understandable and was our problem. Soda Butte's problem was that their sign stated that they had "VACANCY". We were told that their sign was broken. This seems a little too convenient and drew in slews of people desperate for lodging.
Soda Butte hotel staff was awfully weird and rude. The manager had some of the worst people skills I've ever seen. She was blatantly rude to multiple patrons, including us. Since the hotel was booked, they "offered" to let us stay in the lobby for $25/person with our camping gear. That meant that for the four of us, it would have been $100 a night to sleep in sleeping bags on their disgusting floor with a bunch of other strangers, with the hotel bar (connected to the lobby) open until 2 a.m., and public bathrooms in the basement for us to use. No food was included and the lobby became populated with a tour bus full of people milling around. We counter-offered a more reasonable price, but were turned down. I'm not sure if packing a lobby full of sleeping patrons is even legal for fire-codes. We ended up staying through our horrible dinner that was super expensive and then opting not to sleep on the floor of the lobby. Instead, we drove through the night to stay in Cody, WY.
All in all, the wait staff at the restaurant was very nice and I appreciated them. The rest of the staff was impressive only in the most negative ways. I hope they turn this place around... and sooner rather than later.
