“Any port in a storm”
Reviewed 2 November 2008

We got to Glacier late in the season - almost everything was closed. In addition, there was a storm going through and the Highway to the Sun was closed near the summit. This forced us to go around the park to see the Eastern side. That's how we came to be at Glacier East late in the day and saw the large, brilliant neon sign advertising a vacancy at the Dancing Bears Inn.

We stayed for one night. The room was OK; very old fashioned and kind of creepy. There was no visible means of adjusting the heat (at least I didn't see any), but the room was warm enough anyway. The bed turned out to be comfortable because we slept the night through. We were very lucky to have neighbors as quiet as we - you could hear them through very thin walls (the cabins are actually two "cabinettes" sharing a wall.)

There was a combination general store and coffee shop on the main road that was still open. We went in with misgivings, but it turned out to be a friendly place and the food was simple but good. Everything else was shut down.

My advice - go before October unless you have an RV.

The park, by the way, was stunning in reds and yellows. Beautiful and quiet.

  • Liked — It was available when everything else was closed
  • Disliked — Thin walls, low quality everything

This motel is "o. k." if you are "in a bind" for a place to stay, but I would have stayed elsewhere if I had had any other options. It is very overpriced for what is provided. We stayed in motels every night for 23 nights, and this one ranked as the second highest charging of the 23 motels. We would rank it as 21/23 in the places we stayed--we stayed in a number of Best Westerns, Comfort Inns, and two Doubletree Hotels, all for much less cost per night and with much more in services and amenities than the Dancing Bears Motel. We would recommend looking elsewhere and making advance arrangements to stay elsewhere instead of paying their high prices.

  • Liked — room was reasonably clean and a place to sleep
  • Disliked — vastly overpriced for amenities and services provided; staff could be friendlier and more helpful

I stayed in a duplex cabin room! IT was new and clean. Microwave, fridge and jet tub included and internet access. There were limited little extras beyond that. Had to get hair dryer from front desk, no book or papers on area info, no pen & notepad, no shampoo. Staff were friendly & somewhat helpful.

The staff is what made the stay terrible. They just did not care about anything. I could not find any of the Inn staff when needed; this is a small Inn. The Inn itself is very very dated. The Dancing Bears Inn should only be considered when you are desperate and stranded.
