“Best option in the Glacier Park area”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

Most lodging options around glacier are either extremely expensive, extremely primitive, or both. While it's tiny and a fair drive from the main park entrances, the Half Way Motel is reasonably prices (for a resort area) and provides modern amenities and a clean, comfortable place to stay.

The place gets its name from its location on highway 2, roughly halfway between the east and west entrances to Glacier National Park. It is at the south end of the park, very near the Izaak Walton Inn and the Essex Amtrak station. The four-room motel is part of a little complex that includes a very nice little restaurant and a convenience store that also serves as the area's post office. Check-in is done at the store, and ours was efficient and friendly.

The exterior of the motel has a quaint log cabin look, and it's tucked among the trees in a beautiful setting. The outside is rustic, but inside the rooms are pleasantly modern. Our room was immaculate, a pleasant change from a filthy place just down the road where we'd stayed the previous night. Many places in the Glacier area don't even have televisions in the rooms. The Half Way not only had flatscreen TVs with satellite reception, but they also offered free wi-fi--in an area that doesn't even have cell phone reception. Our room also featured a microwave and a large refrigerator that cooled better than any other hotel fridge I've encountered. The price was roughly $100 a night, which is a steal for a resort area in high season.

We also had dinner in their restaurant. The food was tasty, and the prices were very reasonable. We would have had breakfast there as well, but they didn't open until 9:00 in the morning. While they do provide in-room coffee, I'd suggest they consider opening the restaurant earlier, since I'd think many of their guests would want to get an early start exploring what can be a very crowded national park.

We were very pleased with our stay at the Half Way Motel, and I'd encourage others who are in the Glacier Park area to stay there.

This place was on our way from the east side to the west of Glacier Park. It is very simple but very clean. I stopped in the café to sign in and it was late so we didn't eat but looked very clean and my guess is that the food we all be homemade and delicious. They were very helpful in getting my two boys some choc. milk. Very nice staff.

My husband and I stayed at Half-Way Motel for five nights. It is family run. The rooms are extremely clean, and the staff very helpful. The Half-Way Cafe is a good place to grab some food. We are hikers and when asked at the Cafe for good hikes, we were given some great ideas. We enjoyed our stay and felt safe and well cared for! I would recommend the Half-Way Motel as a place to stay. From the motel, it is about a 30 minute drive to East Glacier Park or Apgar Village.

Room Tip: All the rooms are similar and in the same setting.

The wife and I have stayed with these folks for the last 4 years. In July we go to the Glacier Meadows For the Glacier/Waterton Ham Fest. Our stay has always been a good one. I couldn't ask for a better place to hang my hat and kick off my boots! Jim and Norma Sims

Room Tip: I never knew they had a swimming pool, it must be the river!

We stayed down the road, but went to the Half Way's Cafe for dinner two nights in a row. The hosts at the Inn we were staying at recommended the Half Way as a good place for home style cooking. The people running the motel and the cafe were very nice and packed up some yummy food for us to take back to the Inn. My husbands loved the white bean soup, and I really enjoyed the chicken salad. I ordered it twice.

Stayed here on a recent vacation at Glacier. Rooms were nice sized, very clean, and well appointed. Ate dinner at the restaruant and were well satisfied with the meal we had. The owners were very friendly and hospitable.

Very nice large clean room with a huge bathroom. Nicest family you will ever meet. We arrived extremely late by Amtrak and they picked us up....with no wheels of our own, they also schuttled us to meet scenic tours with the Red Bus system in Glacier National Park. Meals were generous and home cooked. Great, quiet place to spend some time.
