“Great Big Sky Montana Hotel”
Reviewed 21 February 2006

Like most people these days we found and booked out Montana vacation online. Never having been to MT before we were a little nervous until we actually got there. But once we arrived at Rainbow Ranch our tensions were put rest upon entering the lodge. We arrived in the evening and it could not have been a more warm or cozy welcome. Meghan greeted with a friendly smile and checked us in to our room. However, before we could unpack our bags we had to plunge ourselves into the plush leather couches in front of the blazing fire in the river rock fireplace of the lounge and enjoy a glass of wine from there excellent selection of wines by the glass.
Our entire stay was very much like this. The rustic yet elegant lodge and restaurant are complimented by the courteous staff and beautiful surroundings. The nearly frozen (it was pretty cold out while we were there!) Gallatin River trickled by outside our back door and we could see mountains in every direction. We loved the Rainbow Ranch Lodge and would certainly recommend it to others looking for a charming Montana vacation.

Rainbow Ranch is a unique, charming hotel that offers an excellent service with funky staff from all over the world.(Poland, Slovenia, Russia) We were amazed by their enthusiasm and eagerness to help out. The wine cellar is spectacular but we did not have time to take an advantage of it. However if you whish you could have a private dinner there. From our cozy room that overlooks Gallatin River we were able to go on great hikes. The morning coffees and dinners were excellent. The only thing that we would change there were the towels.

I was impressed from the minute we walked in, and it only got better. This is a great place to get away. This is a true five star lodge experience. I wish I could have stayed longer.

We stayed here in December 2005 for 5 days. The rooms are nicely furnished and quiet, with a nice outlook on the Gallatin River. The fireplace is cozy and the beds are comfortable. The rooms are not very spacious (but we were a family of 4). The shower was great, as was the jacuzzi bath. Staff was friendly and helpful. The lodge itself is very nice but separate from the rooms -- a downside if the weather is freezing. The breakfast (included) is pretty weak -- bad coffee and mediocre muffins every day. Also, they only did a real room cleaning once during our stay -- the other days seemed to be just making the beds and maybe rinsing the sink. There is also very little dresser space. The location is about 20 minutes from the ski resorts. We loved Moonlight Basin ski resort -- empty and friendly. We would consider staying there or the cabins at Lone Mountain Ranch if we return.

The Rainbow Ranch, just a few minutes from Big Sky Resort in Montana, has a logo that says "The West may be wild, but it's civilized." This perfectly describes a stay at the Rainbow Ranch Lodge. Aside from the opulence of one of the nation's largest destination resorts, this is a rugged part of Montana. The lodge rests on the banks of the Gallatin River which carves its way through the Madison Range and Spanish Peaks. The moment I checked-in, I was made to feel special. My luxury suite was only a few paces from the river and the attached deck to the room and adirondak chair were perfect for just resting and watching the water flow. The lodge is along highway 191, but the considerable amount of trees and foilage are effective at blocking noise from the occasional vehicles and make one feel as though they're far from anywhere. The river rock fireplace and jacuzzi tub topped of the delights of the room. Words can not do justice to the dining experience. Every table in the dining room is in a perfect spot. The room is quiet and glows from the lore of the old west. The service is on par with any luxury restaurant to which I've been. I never once wanted for anything, my needs were always anticipated. The wine list was enormous but very easy to navigate and the knowledgable staff seemed happy to assist. The menu met every taste from seafood to beef to wild game. The presentation of the food was enticing and I truly can't describe how good it tasted. During my stay I sampled almost everything on the menu and was always impressed. Overall the lodge and restaurant prices were fair compared to the outstanding quality. I usually pay more for a basic room and meal at any hotel in large cities. My recommendation is to saddle up and head for the Rainbow Ranch!

We recently hosted a large group at the Rainbow for the wedding of my Son. While we did not stay at the main lodge we did stay at a beautiful 5 bedroom log cabin that is also operated by the Rainbow.
What a beautiful place to stay, and the scenery out the front door is nothing shy of majestic. Cabin is located 50' from the river and included a large wrap around deck. Peaceful, relaxing, I didn't want to leave.
We did spend a fair amount of time at the main lodge. The restaurant was wonderful with very high quality food. The bar and lounge area is cosy, comfortable, inviting, beautiful, what else can I say. We did look into a couple of the rooms at the main lodge and loved them. Looking forward to a romantic week with just my wife sometime in the future.
Life at the Rainbow is very relaxing, and yet if you are looking for activities, they are there to keep you busy.
The wedding was helt at the barn down by the river. Catering was done by the rainbow staff and the food was awesome. What a place to start the rest of your life.
We will be back. Again, and again, and probably again.
