I had booked this hotel based on location of the park, it seemed reasonable for the price within the area but I would have defintely paid a little more in Gardiner if I had known this hotel had such sparce conditions ....
- Bugs in Room
- No Coffee Maker, Microwave, Fridge etc etc etc,
- Beds were hard
-no Guest Laundry Services
- No continental breakfast
-no hottub or pool.

So if your looking for these things above,,, this is not the hotel for you.
Basically for $114.00 per night you get a bed, shower and a toilet. The looks from the outside of the hotel are really nice, sits on the yellowstone river. But we were just schocked at the lack of amenities for the price. You can stay down at the super 8 right down the road and at least have some amenities.

I had read some great reviews about this place on this site but can't understand where people are coming from. The place looks pretty good from the outside but the minute we opened the door there was a gross smell. We had three rooms total on the bottom floor and they all had bugs swarming around our lights when we walked in (my Mom was smacking them with her slipper!). My sisters said their room smelled like pee between their beds. There was hair in my sheets and I could see stains on my pillow through the thin case. I do have to say though that the people working there are very kind and helpful. It just seems like the rooms are in need of an overdue re-model.

Stayed at the Absaroka twice within a week or so time frame. First stay ... television would not work and the wiring in the room was sooooo make-shift that I worried about the place bursting into flames if I dared to plug in anything. In fact, all of the electrical wiring (can't really say outlets because I don't think there were any) had labels that warned against touching, unplugging, or moving. Other than that, the room was no frills, but comfortable enough (lol). The second stay was not much better. While the electrical outlets seemed ok and the television worked ... none of the lights worked. There were two lights above each bed ... out of all 4, only one even had the housing to accept a bulb ... and I really didn't want to venture a try. There was a desk lamp, but it only worked if you were able to figure out which of the light switches activated the electricity to the lamp ... and then you had to turn the lamp switch "just so" to get it to turn on. Luckily, the bathroom and sink light fixtures worked fine ... just had to use the light from the windows and the glow of the tv for the rest of the room. On the positive side, all the rooms do overlook the river and either had a walk-out patio or a balcony (hope for the ground level balcony if you have a lot of luggage -- otherwise you are dragging things up or down stairs to get to the rooms).

The hotel sits on the edge of the Yellowstone river. Our room was on the bottom floor and it had a deck that ran along the front of all the lower level rooms. The deck was a step above a grass area that lead to the cliff of the river. The hotel provided plastic deck chairs to sit on and we all found it very relaxing to spend the evening sitting along the side of the river listening to it flow by, the days we were there we saw one other couple sitting by the river but it may get more crowded in the later summer as it warms up. The rooms in this hotel were clean but they are older. The rooms didn’t have irons or hairdryers but I was able to get one from the front counter.

The Absaroka Lodge is right on the Yellowstone River, so it has great views, the sound of the river in the background, and a lovely lawn area. Our kitchenette unit had everything we needed, plus a balcony. The staff kept it very clean during our 5 night stay, even doing the dishes if we left any in the sink! The management is friendly and helpful. Gardiner is a nice little town, a block outside Yellowstone, and has decent restaurants, laundromat and a really good grocery store. We had a great time staying here!

This place felt a little grungy. The rooms were reasonably clean. The bedspreads and blankets could have done with a good cleaning. The carpet, while in decent condition, looked old and in need of a steam cleaning. The furniture looked battered and the upholstery old. Really the only nice thing I can say about it is the view of the river was nice.

If I could do it again, I would stay at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel a little further south. The restaurant there was actually really good and the location much better. Frankly, I didn't like the town of Gardiner. There is zero charm, no good restaurants and everything looked depressing. Not a place to spend any time in, even as a home base to spend nights in.

This was our home base for a family Yellowstone vacation of a life time. First I love the city a Gardiner, a very nice small town. Second, I think this is the best place to stay in town. What could be better than the yellowstone river at your back door and a view of Yellowstone in the back ground. We found our rooms clean, quiet and comfortable. It was everything we needed for a memorable Yellowstone vacation. I am confident you will too. I am not sure what others are referring to with dirty rooms, this is the exact opposite of our experience inside and outside of our rooms. Check out the picture of the sunset I have downloaded and imagine this being your view on your vacation!
