“OK place to stay”
Reviewed 5 July 2006

Very nice exterior to building and warm inviting lobby with river rock fireplace. Stayed in a king room on main floor for 2 days. Ended up in a handicap accessible king room due to all other rooms being booked. The room was large with a very comfortable pillowtop bed. Cleanliness of room was above average. The bath was very large and looked well suited for wheelchair use. The desk staff was friendly and helpful on checkin. Nice guest laundry room with folding table. NIce pool and exercise room with sauna that was out of order. We were disappointedt in the "expanded" continental breakfast. On the first morning we were at the breakfast room at 6:15am and the items were well stocked and nicely presented, however, not one protein item available. They provided: apples/oranges, cold cereal, sliced bread, donuts, mini muffins, mini bagels, biscuits and gravy, and hot waffles. On the second morning we were at breakfast at 8:30 am and there was only donuts, cold cereal, biscuits/gravy, and beverages. The attendant was not keeping up with restocking and there was no where to sit due to a small room and too few tables. Also, the trash cans were overflowing. We returned at 8:45am and was able to get a muffin but they were still out of waffle mix, bagels, etc. They need to adjust room price or provide the "expanded" breakfast as they advertise in the AAA book. This hotel is pricey ($134.00/night) for the amenities but we also realize our stay was during peak travel season to the Glacier area. On checkout two of the housekeeping staff were standing at the front entrance smoking and we had to walk through unpleasant cigarette smoke to enter the lobby.

I have been traveling worldwide for almost thirty years; when I write about any lodging establishment I consider three basic characteristics: 1). Was I safe there? 2). Was I comfortable there? and 3). Would a reasonable experienced traveler conclude that the price they paid for the loding was appropriate, considering the location, the season, and the overall physical condition of the establishment.

The La Quinta Inn in Kalispell was clearly overpriced at $134.00 per night on Saturday, 3 June, 2006. Yes, I was safe and comfortable there, but I am sure a reasonable traveler will conclude that it is clearly overpriced, even for a summer rate. It is not a full-size establishment with a full variety of ammenities to support the high price, but a clean comfortable place. It is a hard-to-find hotel with a surprisingly small street sign that you will miss if you don't drive slow and carefully watch. To access the hotel you have to negotiate a not-so-well marked intersection that has four lanes of traffic converging to one turn. Be careful here.

The rooms don't have telephone books; I wanted to check to see if the main road going through Glacier National Park was open. I needed the phone number to the Park. I walked to the front desk and asked the desk attendant if she could help me with finding a phone number. She simply told me to call the local telephone exchange information number. I asked her for her copy of the telephone book and while she was watching, I turned the pages and within seconds found the number I was looking for.

When checking out Sunday morning, I had to look and look and look for the desk attendant, as the attendant was no where to be seen. She finally showed after I walked down the hall and called for "anyone home?" I have learned not to expect five-star service from what appears to be summer hires, but with a bit of effort the desk attendants could have been much more helpful to some basic requests and services.

Kalispell has many other lodging options available, I would check them first before going back to the La Quinta Inn.

This was my first experience with La Quinta and I was pleasantly surprised.
I had always thought that this was a low-end, economy hotel chain, but I was wrong. This hotel had very nice, clean rooms with all the important amenities, including a small refrigerator, microwave, coffemaker, iron, ironing board, and blow dryer. There were also some nice "small touches," like a plastic bag for dirty or wet clothes.
The hotel had a workout room, swimming pool, jacuzzi, and guest laundry.
There was a smalll "office" off the lobby that was set up with some basic supplies and a computer that offered free internet access.
The continental breakfast was nice and included a self-serve waffle iron, juice, fruit, cereal, and the usual assortment of bread products like bagels, doughnuts, etc. The coffee bar was set up nicely with some flavor options. There was also coffee available in the lobby. You might have to ask for directions to the breakfast room. It's behind the office and down the hall a bit.
The staff was very pleasant, friendly and helpful.
I took the advice of another TripAdvisor review writer and asked for a room on the mountain view side of the hotel. There wasn't too much of a view, but the other side of the hotel faces a recycling center.
I also noticed some lower level rooms (slightly below ground), so you might also want to request an upper level. They have an elevator.
Also, when you try to find the hotel, you have to look very closely. The La Quinta sign is very small and the hotel is hard to find from the road. Just look for a recycling center and a car dealership that apparently specializes in very large pickup trucks. The hotel is in between.
Don't worry...the location is better than it sounds, and the hotel is very nice. Great stone-and-log decor at a great price. I was pleasantly surprised and definitely would stay there again.

This was my second time staying here... It is very comfortable, bright, clean... has free wireless internet, pretty good coffee available all the time, and a decent free breakfast. Also, the rooms have a small refrigerator and microwave and coffee pot. Oh, it also has a pool and a workout room, which I haven't used (but probably should). One suggestion if you're planning on staying: request a room with a mountain view! Otherwise, you may be facing a big recycling yard with forklifts, etc. making a lot of noise. I would hate that! But the mountain views are gorgeous.

This was our first experience with La Quinta. I had heard good things, but had no idea how good. The property, we were told, was about 5 years old. It looked almost new. The room was clean and bright, the service was excellent and the breakfast was great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going through Kalispell on their way to Glacier National Park. You will have a good experience.
