If you want to ride horses in the mountains of Montana you cannot get any better than this. No matter what your horse riding skill or experience is, they will match you with a horse who will take care of you. The serenity and beauty and peacefulness of the mountain location was just what we were looking for. The views were spectacular. It was not fancy, but the accommodations were clean and comfortable. The food was absolutely gourmet quality and you could have as much as you could eat. With guests limited to 20 people, we got to know everyone on the staff and the other guests well and enjoyed ourselves so much. The people who own and manage and work at Hawley Mountain Ranch are the real deal. We will definitely come back next year.

Our first ranch experience and we will be going back next year as our expectations were exceeded. Pristine wilderness in the heart of the Rockies offering breathtaking views and comfortable rustic ranch style accommodations. Just perfect giving you a true ranch experience at 6,400' in elevation and an hour and a half from the nearest town. Truely getting away from it all as there is no cell phone service and TV though they do have Wifi at the lodge. Owners and staff were amazing, fun and personable as they catered to all of our needs. Don't need riding experince as their experienced wranglers will pair you with the right horse that is yours for the week. Felt like seasoned riders in just a few days. The flyfishing was memorable and spectacular. My wife and I stayed in the lodge room offering the best views of the valley as it sits on a 300' cliff surrounded by 10,000'+ mountains. Meals were tasty and served family style allowing you to develop lasting relationships with the other guests and the staff. Not just a ranch experience but an adventure that will give you memories for a lifetime. We loved it so much that we will be going back with friends next year.

This was our 3rd visit to Hawley Mountain. They do such a wonderful job taking care of all your wants and needs. This time, we again stayed in Cabin A (Absaroka?)with the screened in loft above the porch. We had our 3 grown children as well as our 11 month old grandson. We weren't quite sure how that would work out, but it turned out to be great. We set up our portable crib between the twin beds in the loft and plugged in the video monitor. The monitor would reach to the picnic table just outside the lodge so we could keep an eye on him after bedtime. It also reached to the hot tub area. They had a high chair available for our use which was nice. We had a rollaway bed brought in, but didn't really need it since you have the extra "outdoor" space area. There are 2 mattress pads and sleeping bags and extra blankets for that space. The owners, Ron and Phyllis and Bryant and Ellen are so nice. I took more time this time to practice my fly fishing skills (that they teach you), and I caught my first rainbow trout in their stocked pond! The rides are wonderful-don't miss the river trail ride! We did that one twice. Deer were everywhere this year. The hike to Monument Peak was memorable, as I overcame my fear of heights and just did it. You can keep a nice slow pace and have plenty of time! It is a breathtaking view of the world.
I am sure we will continue this vacation in year's to come and hope to bring more grandchildren here in the future!

Room Tip: Book a cabin in January for a summer vacation..

My friend and I spent a week at Hawley Mountain in July. Everything about the trip was amazing. Ron and Phyllis the owners took great care of us and made us feel welcome from the moment we were picked up at the airport. I had never been on a horse before but Arlene the Head Wrangler and the other wranglers made me feel safe and well taken care of. The horses were great, some of the trails were steep but my horse Spur was steady and I learned to trust that he knew what he was doing. After a week with my horse it was very sad to say goodbye.

The Ranch is located in a beautiful setting and the views were breathtaking. I found the Lodge Rooms very comfortable and it fit all of our needs. I especially liked the balcony for each room where you could sit and take in the amazing view. The staff were very friendly and I really enjoyed the food in the lodge and the outdoor cookouts. Ron the owner shared a lot of the history of the ranch which my friend and I really enjoyed hearing and found very interesting. The owners and staff have a lot of passion for what they do. We also really enjoyed getting to know the other guests and made some wonderful new friends, you know it is a great vacation when everyone had tears in their eyes when it was time to go home. If you want a great outdoor Montana experience this place has it all. Thank you Hawley Mountain Guest Ranch for the best vacation ever, can't wait to return!

Our family (2 adults and 2 kids ages 9 and 5) visited the Hawley Mountain Guest Ranch over the 4th of July week and it was truly a priceless adventure for the whole family. While we reviewed photos of the ranch and web site in advance, the setting and views were much more spectacular than we had pictured. The owners, Phylis and Ron Jarrett, have created a remarkable experience for all ages supported by a dedicated team of staff that constantly strive to make each adventure and each day a one of a kind adventure.

The primary activity is horseback riding with two rides scheduled each day. Each member of our family was matched up with an individual horse and we began with introductory rides that allowed novices to gain confidence. The rides progressed to the High Meadow ride and the all day Meat Rack ride later in the week. The wrangler team led by Arleen were amazing. All were patient and helpful and took great pride in their horsemanship.

There were so many fun things to do like fly fishing, hiking, mountain 4 wheeling, white water rafting, cook outs, social hours, star gazing, animal spotting, games in the lodge, etc. That it didn't feel like there was enough time to fit everything in.

We can't begin to say enough about the owners and staff. The entire organization runs like a well oiled machine with all staff members cross trained so they can pitch in wherever needed during the week. Staff mingled with the guests and our kids followed them around like ducklings the entire holiday. Eric led fly fishing, knot tying classes and showed all the kids how to throw a rope. Sadie led horse shoeing duties at the barn. Josh was great with the kids and was the picture of rugged outdoorsman with his homemade buckskin. Ramon and Rachel led games and kids activities around the lodge. Other staff made sure that all housekeeping were timely and taken care of -- thanks to JoJo, JJ and others.

The kids favorite experiences were endless and included swimming in the pond, horseback riding, playing in the river, making new friends, sitting with the other kids and staff for meals, playing on the rocks, Mac & Willow, the staff, 4 wheel drive, tubing in the Yellowstone, games with the staff, special callouts to: Rachel, Ramon, Sadie, Josh, JJ, Kevin, Eric ...

Biggest challenges were deciding what to eat first for meals, disconnecting from the Internet (Maybe a good idea to unplug for the week), adjusting to the altitude, only having a week at the ranch. When we sign-up for next year, we'll probably go later in the summer for better fly fishing when the river is lower. Props out to Ramon for stepping up to head cook duties and crushing the competition in WII dancing.

Will we return to Hawley Mountain next summer? We don't really have a choice this was our best vacation EVER!!!

Room Tip: Lodge rooms are rustic, but are more reasonable and have spectacular views. Cabins are private wi...

My husband and I recently got back from a week with our 13 year old daughter, 8 year old son, my parents, and my sister and her husband. We had such a great time. We are all ready to go back again. The horses are very good - gentle but strong enough to handle the tough trails. Years ago we went to a Colorado dude ranch, which we enjoyed, but my horse was basically a carnival donkey. But at Hawley Mountain they have worked to obtain high quality horses that we fell in love with. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you go, and Ramon the swing chef is there, be sure to participate in the wii dance competition on Saturday night. Bet you can't beat him.

We stayed in the Carbonate cabin, which was perfect for our family of four. We could've fit more people, but since there is only one bathroom, I'm glad we didn't try. The view from the cabin is wonderful. Just breathtaking. As much as we loved the horses, the fishing, the 4x4 ride, the food and fun, I think one of my favorite memories was waking up after midnight to go outside and see the stars. I have never seen stars like that - not from a cruise ship or anywhere else. Utterly stunning.

The trail rides at the ranch are pretty steep in places, but the horses handle it well. The view from High Meadow is one in a million.

When I was researching ranches, many of them had a larger capacity and split the kids up from the parents via "kids camp". The main reason we chose Hawley was that we could all be/ride together. Which was the main point of our family vacation. Other ranches that were more expensive had pools and manicured landscaping, but I truly enjoyed the rugged natural beauty at Hawley. They are also very safety conscious and offer nice riding helmets. They're not required, you can ride in your cowboy hat if you want to, but they are offered.

One thing we really enjoyed was spending a few days in Yellowstone before the ranch week. That was amazing!

One other thing to know is that this is rugged country. The drive up to the ranch is a bit bumpy, but we think it is very much worth it. And the hikes will make you sore if you are not used to lots of incline.

Room Tip: Carbonate cabin is the biggest. It was even nicer than the pictures showed. The rest of our group...
