Stayed here during the first week of November for an elk hunting trip. On arrival day, after all the guests were in, Russ, the owner gathered everyone together for an orientation that included a lecture about not clogging his toilets. He came off as more of a high school principal than someone running a lodge. I should have known better but decided to stick it out. Unfortunately it just continued to get worse. Russ is one of the most negative, anti-social people I've ever met. He doesn't seem to care about the happiness of the guests...at one point I attempted to pull him aside to request a different hunting guide since I didn't like the one he had assigned me and he cut me off mid-sentence with a "no" and walked away. The next morning he attempted to embarrass me in front of the other guests on this topic. Wow.
Regarding the hunting, the elk herds are heavily pressured and the hunting is mediocre at best. On top of this, they book too many hunters at a time (nine during my stay). Most of the animals were small but a couple barely legal bulls were taken. The guides are assigned in a strange manner...everyday Russ tells you who will be guiding you and where you're going in a sort of round robin fashion. If you don't like your guide or want to hunt with someone you clicked with well too bad! Also, you can't request to go to certain areas. The hunting is mainly out of blinds as Russ doesn't want the hunters chasing the elk.
I tried to stick it out for the whole trip but finally just couldn't take anymore of the owner's bad attitude and I left early. Needless to say I did not leave a tip!
The best thing about this place is it's relatively cheap for a hunting package but I soon discovered why. Just remember, you get what you pay for. I suggest spending a few bucks more and going someplace where they understand service and that making the guests/hunters happy is why you're in business.
The lodge and location have potential if new owners acquire the property. Currently the facility is sparsely furnished but has nice views and a good layout. The linens and bedding are motel quality but could be easily upgraded with new owners.
If you're looking for a hunting lodge or want any sort of experience, I'd avoid this place.
