Owner description: Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary is the only public refuge in Montana to house native animals that cannot be returned to the wild due to injury or habituation to humans. We care for over 40 animals and birds, many placed here by Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks, including wolves, mountain lions, black bears, bison, elk, bobcat, fox, coyote, eagles, hawks, owls and many more. The sanctuary offers visitors an unparalleled chance to learn about these and other animals by observing them at close range and through interpretive displays.

“Wonderful selection of animals and great staff”
Reviewed 21 August 2012

They recently changed the name of the Beartooth Nature Center to the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary. It rescues all sorts of animals (orphans, injured, etc.) and provides them a place to live. We have been there several times and always enjoy it! Each animal has a description of what they are and their story. We look forward to seeing our favorites each time we go and our saddened to hear of different animals passings, such as Helen, one of the mountain lions. Don't pass by the animals too quickly or you will miss things such as Poe, who is a talking crow! He also will offer you sticks! Lots of fun!!! It is also fun to see when they get fed! Fun and educational for kids!

“Small but interesting”
Reviewed 16 August 2012

This is like a mini-zoo and is a nice little walk around the area with great animals to view. A nice experience in the mountain air!

“Wide variety of animals to see”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

Wide variety of rescued animals all housed in cages or pens. Interesting and a good chance to see these animals close up. We went on our second day of the holiday so this was our chance to find out what we might see for the rest of the trip!

“Interesting, Good Time”
Reviewed 22 June 2012

Bears play-fighting with each other and splashing in the pools, wolves chasing birds, foxes slinking from view, a mountain lion wandering past to another snoozing spot mostly out of view. Owls, hawks, etc. Yes all the animals are caged and picture taking will be difficult, but this is one of the better opportunities to experience some of these animals up close.

It's fairly easy to wander through, not overly busy. It's a wildlife sanctuary... they are changing the name to Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary. Worth a visit, but realize what they do and what you are going to see. It's not designed for prime viewing for tourists like many zoos.
