“Sufficient, but probably the worst KOA we've stayed at”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

Stayed for a night recently on a trip through Virginia City. The campground was sufficient, but was not up to the standards we generally expect from a KOA. We paid just under $50/night for a spot for our 30 ft motorhome. There was barely room for a picnic table between us and our neighbor. Fires had to be in an old half of an oil drum that was too tall to realistically have a nice campfire in. Power service was only 20 amp and no way was it up to code, there were no disconnects/breakers, wire was exposed to the elements. It obviously hadn't been upgraded at all for many years. Also the fact that it's 10 miles away from Virginia City is unfortunate.

We were leery to book reservations here based on the last review posted but we were pleased to stay here and will do so again when we visit Virginia City/Nevada City. The Kanpground was clean and well maintained with no dog droppings in sight. We had a pull through that was long enough for a 30 ft. Motor home and a full sized pickup. Sites are narrow but still wide enough for a tip out and awning and we had a full hookup with picnic bench and fire pit. Shade is limited but our spot, # 25 had shade for part of the day. Only downside to it is the lack of grass and privacy. We had friends traveling with us and they used cabin#1 which was fine for 1 adult and 3 boys and would have worked for 2 adults and 2 children. The cabins and the tent areas were under the trees and the area was beautiful. Tall, trees, great grass areas and far from the next cabin.

Rest rooms/showers were clean and well maintained with a good dressing area to use after showering. The the owner Ed was very pleasant and helpful. Nice small store with mosquito spray available. Summer camping under trees and with grass does attract mosquito's so have spray with you. The mosqiuto's were around but not bad at all. We enjoyed a great campfire at night with limited bugs. Would definitely stay here again.

reserved 2 nights as we were on a round the country roadtrip and up to this point loved every koa we stayed at {drove through 21 states stayed in 12--this was our 8th koa]...upon arriving the entire campground was run down but seeing the age of the couple running it we put our first impressions aside {never again} and set off for our cabin. the cabin had hardly enough room for 4 people to move so we tried sitting outside but the mosquito's were so many that it looked the way you would see clusters of nats! can't even describe how bad they were!!! and the koa store had nothing -candles/fogger/spray only little pocket size sprays that prob would last an hour there-and no other store within 30 miles carried anything either. we tried dealing with it but not to out surprise when the kids tried playing frisbee in the grass around our cabin, the frass was full of dog crap-the owners have 2 dogs that wander the campground freely and apparently don't pick up after them sooo onto the platground where the bikes are not only disgustinly grimey but antique like and the swings handing on broken chains. i told the owner i can not and will not stay here the 2nd night and asked of he would give me a partial refund [ for the second night ] and of course he refused. so sickened by this place we gladly packed our bags and went to a motel a few miles away. complained to the main koa headquarters but only got an apology but no type of refund or anything was offered so i was out 65.00 for that night plus 150.00 for the motel!!!
you have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!
