We had made a reservation for dinner with my parents and friends visiting from San Francisco. We were kept waiting even with our reservation. Then we were told they were out of most everything and were waiting to close. I will never go back!!

Cabin atmosphere and great upscale menu!
It is a little out of the way, but the drive there is gorgeous.

Delightful menu, full of never-tried fare and a knockout winelist makes this an unexpected gem in the most surprising location...

When we entered, the sign on the board said "special price on all opened wines." We checked - what a sophisticated and varied wine list! Same for the menu - wide variety of dishes, all well prepared, according to our group of six. Service was professional and swift. Does this sound like a restaurant far from any city? No, it doesn't, but Kathleen and her staff do a booming business with the local community, and it is easy to see why. Well worth the trip from Bigfork.

If you're in the neighborhood of Glacier National Park, treat yourself to dining and lodging at Laughing Horse Lodge.

It looks like a roadhouse, a honkytonk. Like chili and dogs and chili dogs. Inside it is cozy and intimate. The menu is not what you expect either, offering sophisticated appetizers like cambozola with honey sauce and dates, crimini mushrooms in a pino grigio sauce with fresh garden sage, and Tunisian-style blue mussels. The food is so good you want to eat even when you are past full.

The rooms are small, as in old fashioned hotels small, clean and snug. Nothing to write home about.

The staff is courteous and friendly in a north woods way that says there is an interesting person behind these smiling eyes, and it would be worth your time to do a little get-to-knowing.

Kathleen's advertising offers, "Scintillating conversation," and states, "Non-smoking dogs welcome." But don't expect goofy with a side of slaw.

Our Jack Russell fell in love with the house dogs and enclosed garden courtyard. She didn't want to leave and neither did we.
