Upon arrival we were greeted by our warm and friendly hosts. When we arrived at our cabin we were wonderfully surprised by the attention to detail. You could see that comfort and amenities were at the top of our hosts list. Unparalleled views and wildlife sightings add to the wonderful ambiance of the cabin. It was a great experience and we hope to return soon!

Stayed a week at Big Trout Ranch. The large house is perfect for families, well appointed, comfortable and clean. The location between Twin Bridges and Dillon is great for fishermen and sightseers. The fishing on the ranch itself was poor. The hosts had retired to bed when we arrived at 8:30 PM. We felt like we were an inconvenience. There is no high speed Internet or wireless so just be prepared. Overall, the positives clearly outweigh the negatives. Overall it was a pleasurable stay.

Our stay was in the refurbished historic cabin. It is small but fully furnished, sited beautifully, and fully equipped for housekeeping. The setting could not be improved upon with game animals and birds in the fields adjacent and a spring creek at the front door. The hosts are gracious and we enjoyed a tour of the ranch and its activities. The cabin is capable of housing 2 but other much larger houses are available and will accomodate as many as, perhaps a dozen guests each. In the Beaverhead Valley, the Big Trout Ranch would always be our first preference.

Each year for the past 5 years we have organized a family fly-fishing trip centered near Dillon in southwestern Montana. The original and continuing attraction to the area was the excellent fly-fishing offered on the Beaverhead, Big Hole and other nearby rivers. What keeps us coming back, however, is the once-a-year chance for all of us to get together, catch up on the year gone by and enjoy each other’s company over some memorable meals at Big Trout Ranch. The trip has become a sort of annual fishing, food and fellowship retreat.

While we had seen the exterior and interior photos of Kamloops on-line it was not until our first visit that our good fortune became clear. Big Trout Ranch is operated by Cynthia and John Osborne. Kamloops is one of three houses on the ranch and sits on a neat well cared for plot landscaped with native shrubs and flowers and has a terrific back-yard lawn with plenty of room for an end-of-the day Frisbee catch. On entering the house, the dining room table had been set for dinner right down to the napkins, wine glasses and fresh flowers from Cynthia’s garden. The kitchen was fully equipped, big enough for our cooking crew and perfectly clean – all important considerations when feeding a hungry crowd.

Each of the 4 bedrooms is large, comfortable and nicely decorated. The four bathrooms have plenty of space and a seemingly endless supply of hot water – particularly important to our gang of 6-8 fishermen at the end of a long day on the water. Kamloops is also equipped with a large flat panel TV with hundreds of satellite channels, a long bar, pool table, darts and a game table.

Perhaps the house’s best feature is the deck that spans the entire rear of the house. It sits about 15ft above the Frisbee-friendly lawn below and looks across a broad valley, covered in knee-high alfalfa, extending 1/4 of a mile to the Osborne’s own 1-mile section of the Beaverhead. At any given hour, the field seems to have 10 – 30 deer or more, a terrific variety of birds and, on occasion, an elk or two. Beyond the Beaverhead, lie the snow-capped Pioneer Mountains. The deck is a favorite early morning or late evening spot to read or just appreciate the world around you.

Our annual trip is now a favorite tradition – occasioned by world-class fly-fishing but become much more thanks to the Osbornes and Big Trout Ranch.

This was our second stay at Big Trout Ranch and we have stayed both times in the vintage cabin. For our needs it is perfect, and provides a sense of relaxation not easily found in todays world. The view is spectacular and the wildlife abundant.

The owners are very welcoming and friendly. The location is really off the beaten path, but not too far from town if anything is needed. Good access to the Beaverhead, Big Hole, and Ruby for some of Montana's famous trout.

Wanted to have a trip for me, my 3 brothers, and our Dad. Settled on Montana because an old friend has guide service out there. Boy did we hit the jackpot! Brad (our guide, of Anderson & Platt Fly Fishing) recommended Big Trout. The Kamloops house was perfect for our family. We each had our own room, the kitchen was adequately sized, it was clean, had a grill, and the views were extraordinary. The house is surrounded by alfalfa fields and we saw all sorts of wildlife. We saw antelope at the end of the driveway and counted 61 deer out back one night will preparing the elk burgers supplied by our host the Osbornes. Don't expect access to nightlife. There's a bar at the house, but it's a 20-25 minute drive to the closest town. If you want some peace and quiet, beautiful scenery, fine hospitality, and great fishing, you can't beat Big Trout Ranch and Anderson&Platt Fly fishing.
