Yellowstone Country Inn
Reviewed 23 August 2012

We intended to stay for 4 days in Yellowstone National Park, looking for a place to stay over the nights only - therefore we booked Country Inn as one of the more cheap motels at West Yellowstone and located near the center. If you do not expect any hotel-like features (well, they have a small outddoor-pool, but located immediately at the Firehole Avenue) you can find a clean room with functional bathroom. WLAN was very weak and didn't even fit to download emails - the servisce clerk told us they are working on that problem. You can't get any breakfast, but they recommend going to another hotel in the vicinity (White Buffalo) - we got there a breakfast-buffet for about 9 $ per person, may be worth the price.

This place was horrible. We made our reservation only to find out later we couldn't cancel less than 30 days before arrival..So we kept the reservation..When we arrived, the girls behind the desk was nice, but she was very difficult to understand.. Instead of helping us, she was talking to a customer and trying to get them a room . I could tell by the conversation the other person couldn't understand her either. We were moved three times until they found a room with electrical outlets near the beds.. My husband uses a CPAP at night . When I went to the lobby, the girl handed me a fork.. When I tried to explain there were no electrical outlets, she offered a staple remover. The second room had an outlet on the nearby wall but no electrical current. The third room had a tub that dripped all night and the toilet wouldn't quit running. They advertised 17 television channels.. Normally this wouldn't matter, but the Olympics were on and that channel was not one of the five that came in.. The room was old and musty. The drain in the tub was missing. The only electrical in the bathroom was above the light and there was no fan. This was a terribly expensive hotel and the WORST EVER.

Room Tip: Find a different place to stay.

Moldy sink, stinky A/C, no Wi-Fi, inconsistent pricing, recommendation to go eat dinner at a place that closes after lunch, grungy, stained towels, on-site restaurant "closed for the summer. Sorry for the inconvenience."

If I could give negative stars, I would.

I would rather sleep in the car, next time.

P.S. management was non-responsive.

1. Our most expensive yet crappiest stay on a multi-state road trip.
2. A human fecal smell emanated from the air conditioner.
3. Stained ceiling, strange brown spots on shower curtain, gaping hole in lieu of an electrical outlet.
4. Dirty towels.
5. Cracked, peeling, chipped walls, paint, grout.
6. Wifi down, pool empty, where's the hot tub?
TOTAL RIP OFF!

We just stayed at hotel a few weeks ago! Big Mistake! Our room faucet leaked when turned on. We ask for queen bed got full. The only Internet access is in the office! We paid 120.00 for the night, and was a dump! Paint peeling, the great resteraunt they advertise closed for the summer! Not to mention the nasty grounds cig butts and trash. No pride taken in this place!!!! Do yourself a favor stay elsewhere! Oh and the coffee pot leaked all over the counter. The buffet they offer $8 all you can eat but you have to travel elsewhere. No coffee offered in front office. Do not stay here you will regret it! No extra lock on door.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Friendly on the phone, they gave us a discounted price when we booked ($237 for 2 nights) Reception area was nice, the staff pleasant, and it was close to the West Yellowstone Gate, but those are the only highlights. – even with that discount the price was still way too high for lack of quality. We stayed on the 1st floor, in the end room at the back of the parking lot. The pool was unusable (though they did not advise of that when we booked). The power outlets were dangerous (some did not work, others sparked, batteries did not charge right, and it ruined my laptop – had to replace it after the vacation). The window to the parking lot was located in the shower (without curtains). Carpet was pealing up and the floor was not level. Beds were very uncomfortable. Our neighbor in the room next door did not have a working smoke detector, the phone rang off and on through the night (midnight, 2:00AM, etc with no one on the other end – unrequested wakeup call?), and they said it looked like they had just started to demo for a renovation – they were NOT happy. I have stayed in a lot of hotels throughout my life; this is one was the worst. Think of it as a slum lord who is not looking for repeat business. It left a lasting impression on my children (they now say to make sure the hotel is not like what we stayed at in West Yellowstone – that place was gross!!!). Nice location, but in desperate need of a complete renovation. We did stay there nearly a year ago, so if they have renovated since, you can be the judge on the value. We will not, however, be staying there again.
