“Beautiful”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Hiking down the river was not only beautiful but invigorating and in places challenging. We had perfect weather, low humidity, lots of sunshine and breeze.

“Awesome views”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Had a great time driving up and down this river. Saw many giants animals including Elk, Bison, Wolf and bear. Great fishing below the falls. Don't miss the rim drives on the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone!

“Follow this road for a MT experience... from the flats to the mountains”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

If you wanted to sample the great West of Montana, it could be that its major rivers would give you a route of reference. I have spoken earlier of the Missouri. The Yellowstone is too shallow to harness for energy, but surely amounts to a western trail that allows for a different kind of journey. I would recommend starting where it enters the Missouri, near Williston ND, although the oil industry makes lodging difficult and unpleasant. Therefore, you might consider Glendive MT, somewhat upstream as a place for staging, with lots of friendly choices. The day trip could traverse the area between Williston and Fort Peck by way of US 2, known to locals as the "high line", and then back to Glendive in a sort of circle. Then, follow highway 94 to Billings, and into the Yellowstone Park by way of Livingston and Gardiner. The reason I recommend this route is that it takes you on a journey that would have historically been one that both natives and whites would have followed in times gone by, and allows you to see the changes of geography that define the plains and Rockies. Others may have their own itinerary; I like to go from flats to mountains...
