“Great Pet Friendly Choice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2013

We very much enjoyed our stay at Kelly Inn. The room was very nice and comfortable and the breakfast was good. My wife loved the wooden bears climbing around the outside.

Traveling with our little dog we needed a pet friendly room. We have previously stayed in some really run down pet friendly rooms in West Yellowstone. So we paid a bit more to stay at the Kelly Inn and were well rewarded. The room was very clean and nicely furnished.

We will certainly stay there on our next trip to YNP.

Thank you for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor. It does take a bit of extra care to maintain a pet friendly hotel but as pet owners ourselves, it is a niche that we love to serve. Our family of returning pet owners continues to grow every year. Since we must maintain our third floor no pet rooms for those who have allergies to lovable furry creatures, we recommend that pet owners reserve early and direct with our front desk staff so we can assure a first or second floor room for them. Most online travel agencies do not have the ability to indicate that a guest is traveling with a pet so we have added that feature to our web site for those who prefer to make their reservations online. We look forward to seeing you again on your next trip to Yellowstone.

We spent 3 nights at the Kelly Inn. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We got some great restaurants suggestions from them. The room is very spacious and nicely decorated. Very convenient to IMAX, Grizzly Wolf Center, Playhouse and restaurants.

Thank you for the great review. Of course we also feel that we are the nicest place to stay but it is so much nicer to hear it from our guests. We hope that we can always continue to make improvements and add more value every year so that our returning guests will always choose to stay with us.

The staff is very friendly. The rooms are clean and updated. We had a room with 2 king beds and its own outside entrance, which was wonderful. The decor is cute and rustic with log beds. The location is great and you can walk to shops and restaurants. The breakfast is good. Great location for visiting Yellowstone everyday, they are very close to the West entrance. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: If you are traveling with children the double king rooms with their own outside entrance are very co...

Clean, comfortable beds, fantastic location in relation to Yellowstone, but rooms are just like all hotel rooms. Overpriced for what you get. It is like they charge double to make up for the lack of people in winter. Breakfast was fine, nothing out of the ordinary for a free hotel breakfast.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your recent visit. Many folks who visit Yellowstone for the first time in peak season are surprised by the fairly high costs of lodging and the limited number of nationally known food and lodging choices available here.

Your comment about making up for the low visitation in winter is correct. West Yellowstone is surrounded by 2 million acres of National Park and millions of acres of National Forest lands and is located 100 miles from the nearest city. For any business to locate here they must purchase some limited available land at a very high premium and pay for a construction company to travel hundreds of miles with labor, equipment and materials to build. For the millions of dollars of initial investment costs they must survive on the traffic from about 6 months of summer season revenue. Since so few people actually live here all year, most businesses must import summer employees from other countries and pay their transportation fees and housing costs just to open for business each summer. All supplies must be transported in from warehouses hundreds of miles away at fuel costs that rival the highest in the country. Most businesses in the area actually close down for the six six months of the winter season due to the high costs of snow removal and utilities with very low revenue potential. That is why most franchise businesses can not afford to operate here.
Those few businesses that do remain open all year usually lose money half of the year and must generate enough revenue in the summer season to continue in business.
Over 3.5 million folks visit Yellowstone each year and the majority of those folks come between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Consequently the rates for food and lodging to handle that many people in such a short period are at their peak. All businesses here must set prices to recoup enough revenue in the summer months to pay the entire year's expenses. While some people feel that such pricing is taking advantage of visitors to the National Park the alternative is a Yellowstone with no nearby town to support restaurants, hotels and shopping. Without a nearby town, visitors to Yellowstone would either have to drive hundreds of miles each day for food and shelter or bring their own and camp out like they did in the early years.

We recommend that all visitors to Yellowstone use TripAdvisor to research the rates and amenities of all food and lodging choices before planning a trip so that they can make an informed choice before they arrive. Those that can not set aside a sufficient budget for a hotel in peak season with the amenities that they would prefer can find many small older but clean hotels with good reviews or plan to arrive in the shoulder seasons when rates are substantially less. Thank you for adding your comments for others to consider when making their travel plans.

We were in Yellowstone in 2012. The historic hotel we had reserved had plumbing problems so they transferred us to the Kelly Inn. We loved our stay here. Very open and bright... plus it snowed the day we were there and it was so nice to swim in their lovely inside pool. We highly recommend the Kelly Inn.

Thank you for submitting a review of your stay with us last year. Snow in July is certainly not normal for West Yellowstone but in the wilderness mountain climate of Yellowstone National Park it can snow in any month of the year if you go high enough. We have made quite a few improvements since you were last with us and continue to make more improvements every year. We hope that you will return to Yellowstone some day and will choose to stay with us again to see what we have added since your last visit.

My mom, brother, husband and I stayed in late May 2013, and enjoyed our visit very much! None of us had been to Yellowstone before, and Kelly Inn was a great place to stay. We really enjoyed going in the pool/hot tub after our long days in the park. Breakfast was good! We really enjoyed the fruit and yogurt parfait option. Our rooms were on the first floor, which was nice for car access. Right behind a McDonald's, so we were able to walk there one evening for ice cream! : ) We had some papers we needed to print, so having the computer and printer available outside the lobby was great. We also needed to fax the documents, and the girls at the front desk were very willing to help us do so! I would absolutely stay here again, and would recommend Kelly Inn to my friends and family!

My family of eight (ages 11-60) stayed in two rooms for one night. Great location just outside of the Yellowstone West entrance. Staff was friendly. Rooms were spacious and clean. I say "deluxe" rooms because of the decor, the two beds with the sleeper sofa. Bathroom was standard, nothing impressive. There was a large sink area and counter separate from the shower and toilet. There is a small fridge and microwave. Swimming pool area was nice and enjoyed by the kids.

The only element that no one was impressed with was the complimentary breakfast. Quite crowded and cramped. No one in the family was impressed with the food offering or quality.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your recent stay. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our hotel.

One of the greatest subjects for comments about all hotels in our county concerns the space, hours and selection for the free "continental breakfast" offered by most of the larger hotels in the area. We have made many attempts over the years in our TripAdvisor responses to describe the regulations and limitations that hotels here are forced to operate under. We have always encouraged our review readers to offer feedback on what is important to them in our efforts to get local regulations changed. Unfortunately, the folks who make the regulations for hotels also make the regulations for restaurants who would prefer that hotels here not be allowed to offer the same products for free that they are in business to sell. When most hotels were built, a free breakfast was not a consideration and those who built restaurants or attached restaurants to hotels did so as a source for revenue- not to give food away. It is understandable that they do not appreciate hotels who go beyond the minimum "continental breakfast" offerings and deprive them of a large source of revenue. For the typical interstate exit hotel it is not nearly as big a political issue as it is for a confined resort area or wilderness area where restaurants must compete for survival.

We're sorry to hear that you were not impressed by our efforts to extend our free "continental breakfast" to include hot egg and meat items as well as hot pancakes, biscuits and gravy, fruit, berries and yogurt in addition to the standard "continental breakfast" items. We serve our free "continental breakfast" to more guests every morning than any restaurant in town could manage so it does get to be crowded at times and the more items we offer the more difficult it is to get to everything in the limited area that was originally built to be a lobby. That's why we post our service hours from 6:30 AM until 10:00 AM but usually have most of the standard "continental breakfast" items out considerably earlier.

Unfortunately, according to our Gallatin County health department regulations, all hotels here that do not have a restaurant attached are only allowed to provide the county definition of a "continental breakfast". What their current regulations permit hotels to serve for free is simply cereals, bakery products and milk or juice. Therefore, a "continental breakfast" is all we ever advertise as our complimentary breakfast offering. However, since state regulations allow precooked heat and serve items to be offered by hotels if included for free, we have gone far beyond what the county permits us to serve as as additional service to our guests despite numerous warnings. We have recently been warned that we will be fined by the county if we continue serving these additional unapproved items unless we are able to obtain a restaurant license. Since we have no additional land to build a restaurant in order to give away a hot breakfast, such a license is quite difficult to obtain in our limited space. All hotels here have a very difficult choice to make over the next few months.

We are evaluating all guest feedback of our breakfast efforts to determine our next steps. We appreciate the comments from all of our guests to let us know if they want us to attempt to continue serving the additional hot items or if we should simply go back to serving the simple "continental breakfast" that most hotels here will be forced to serve very soon. If our efforts do not add a desired amenity for our guests then we will need to submit to the current county regulations for hotels and discontinue any effort to obtain a restaurant license. However, if the majority of feedback encourages us to continue offering the expanded items then we will make every attempt to obtain the licence required to continue serving precooked heat and serve items. Even with the new license we would still never be allowed to prepare restaurant quality raw egg or meat products within our limited space due to state regulations.

We appreciate your comments and encourage all of our guests who read these reviews to write a review to let us know if they enjoyed our current free offerings and feel that we should attempt to continue our expanded breakfast service or if did not enjoy it and would prefer to order a hot breakfast of their choice at a local restaurant.
