To fully understand the forces and tragedy behind this lake, one must stop at the visitor center on the west end of the lake. They have a short, but extremely informative, film about the earthquake, landslide, and rescue of victims. There is a gift shop there with souvenirs and snacks (all extremely overpriced!). Afterwards, one can take a drive around the north side of the lake and take a few trails to see remnants of cabins that were destroyed.
