“Good views and a sad story”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

We took the route to West Yellowstone that took us through Earthquake lake area. It was good to see it and we stopped at a couple of the turnouts. We did not stop at the museum. We liked the scenery but the story is a sad one.

“We worth the short drive !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

Very scenic and informative. Nice walking paths. Easy for the kids to get around. You need to see this place and learn of the tragedy that took place back in 1959.

“Interesting side trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

After visiting Yellowstone for 3 days we ventured out to the lake on the recommendation of locals in West Yellowstone where we were staying. It is a short, pretty drive past Lake Hebgen where there is also information on the earthquake & it's impact on the campers & residents of the area. Earthquake Lake is not as pretty. The new Visitor Center clearly explains the sad story of the quake & it's results. Very interesting to see the emergency response to this disaster of 55 years ago. Looking out at the slide area truly shows the magnitude of this event.

“Stop at the visitor center”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

To fully understand the forces and tragedy behind this lake, one must stop at the visitor center on the west end of the lake. They have a short, but extremely informative, film about the earthquake, landslide, and rescue of victims. There is a gift shop there with souvenirs and snacks (all extremely overpriced!). Afterwards, one can take a drive around the north side of the lake and take a few trails to see remnants of cabins that were destroyed.

“Finally Came Here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

After four visits to Yellowstone, we finally made time to visit Earthquake Lake. It was a very good stop and close to West Yellowstone. Seeing the amount of debris from the slide that came up over the river to the other side is incredible. The Visitor Center was well done, had a great movie, and a nice gift shop. Highly recommend!
