While staying in West Yellowstone, we took a break from Yellowstone for this day trip to Quake Lake. The short drive from West Yellowstone was beautiful, and the visitor's center, recently remodeled, is full of fascinating exhibits and photos. If you are interested in the geology of the region, you will enjoy this location.

I have been here numerous times, Each time I learn something new from the visitors center. It kind of gives and eerie feeling knowing that so many lost lives, there. I was kind of lost not being able to find the road that took you to the houses that had flooded due to the quake, but maybe that had deteriorated due to time.

We took the route to West Yellowstone that took us through Earthquake lake area. It was good to see it and we stopped at a couple of the turnouts. We did not stop at the museum. We liked the scenery but the story is a sad one.

Very scenic and informative. Nice walking paths. Easy for the kids to get around. You need to see this place and learn of the tragedy that took place back in 1959.

After visiting Yellowstone for 3 days we ventured out to the lake on the recommendation of locals in West Yellowstone where we were staying. It is a short, pretty drive past Lake Hebgen where there is also information on the earthquake & it's impact on the campers & residents of the area. Earthquake Lake is not as pretty. The new Visitor Center clearly explains the sad story of the quake & it's results. Very interesting to see the emergency response to this disaster of 55 years ago. Looking out at the slide area truly shows the magnitude of this event.
