“3 Bears is great”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

We stayed at the 3 Bears during the 2011 Yellowstone Ski Festival. The hotel is centrally located, only a 3 block walk to the start of the Rendezvous ski trails and one block from the Holiday Inn Convention Center which was hosting the festival. Grocery stores, Yellowstone Park Entrance, Free Heel & Wheel, and the Grizzly and Wolves Center were all an easy walk. The hotel rooms are fairly basic but large and very clean with mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. We hadn't been there in 3 years and the hot tub is in a much nicer setting then before. We were on a food plan and it was great. The food is high quality, of nice variety and oriented towards the athletes that were there for the festival. I particularly liked the fish.

Room Tip: There are some rooms in the lodge itself. Others are accessed from the outside like a motel. The m...

We also stayed at the Three Bear Lodge in August and are writing an overdue review. The location was perfect for our excursions into Yellowstone. The hotel is in walking distance to all parts of town (dinner, Grizzly discovery center, ice cream, stores). The room was much bigger than we expected. The people at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, we had to leave a day early. I thought this might be an issue. They didn't even ask why and checked us out without a charge for the night we didn't stay. We would definitely return.

We stayed at the Three Bears Lodge in August - sorry for the late review !!!
Our room was 202 overlooking the pool - large with lovely bear themed furniture- good sized bathroom - very comfortable bed. I am so pleased we were in the Lodge and not the motel at the back.

As stated by other reviewers WY is expensive. We ate at a themed Pizza restaurant near a supermarket - can't remember the name - it was very good and reasonablely priced.

If you want a comfortable bed and facilities book room 202.

Room Tip: Room 202 in the lodge

The hotel is GREAT!!
I visited the hotel back in July and wrote a fairly negative review. Almost immediately, the general manager contacted me to find out the problem. He checked into it right away and everything was taken care of. He was very nice, friendly and helpful. As I said originally, the hotel was great! Very clean and comfortable. I can now also say they take every opportunity to make sure their guests have a nice stay with them.
Can't recommend this hotel enough!!!!

Room Tip: The room with the little "cabin" inside was awesome for a family!!

Our family of 4 (2 adults and a 10 and 11 y.o. who won't share a bed) spent 3 nights at the Three Bear in the 1st week of Oct. 2011 and it was a great. Great location in a VERY quiet season for the town. We had originally booked a balcony room with 3 queens in the renovated lodge portion which was spacious, but didn't have a fan, window, or AC vent/unit in the smaller room & no door. Now, I don't know if all the balcony rooms are laid out this way, but since we are used to "air circulation" we asked at the desk for a box fan or the like. They didn't have one to offer and since it was "slow season" they were able to offer us one of the themed rooms which had the three queens in two rooms plus a "baby bear" bed (can you guess the theme?).

Was perfect even without the balcony which we wouldn't have used since it started to snow on our second day and we spent all our time in the park. I can't speak for the "motel" section, but it seemed just that. Get coffee in the lobby on your way out - at this time of year it was the best/strongest available in town and we tried several though the one rated #1was closed.

About the food - I don't know what everyone is complaining about with the breakfast. This is West Yellowstone, not Jackson Hole, folks so no organic frou-frou here. We got free breakfast for our kids each morning complete with a fancy hot cocoa and we got $2 off each of our adult breakfasts. Hearty, plenty and tasty! *Try the french toast sandwich!*

We ate dinner there once - just so-so. Prices in W. Ylwstn. are high (not as high as J.H. though) on food regardless of where you go, so check for the best recommendations. Granted, this is a small western style town and it was low season, so may things were closing or had already, but don't let that deter you. We got to enjoy 3 seasons of weather in one week and we were going for the scenery and experience and weren't disappointed!

**Very important at this time of year at the park and in towns.**
Stop at the Information Station which doubles for the park and town (separate desks) and get info on what is open/closed or accessible that day and ask for the Park's recorded message # so you can check to see if things change during the day!!

Room Tip: ~Lodge section is renovated and rooms are spacious. ~Balcony rooms front the main street so could...

First time visitor to Yellowstone National Park. The hotel sits on the main street leading to the west entrance. The location is perfect. We stayed in the "lodge" which has been renovated within the last few years due to a fire. They did an excellent job of rebuilding utilizing much of the original wood structure (recycle) to build the new lodge. The rooms are large and comfortable. There were no noise distractions at night and we slept good. Three Bear has an adjacent motel. Our daughter and family stayed in the motel last year and had positive remarks. We did not see the rooms. The people that work at the front desk are always friendly and helpful. An adjacent lodge restaurant offers a wide selection of food that is simple and good. The small town offers several lodging choices and restaurants. Everything in the area is simple and basic. Don't allow your expectations to get to high for food and lodging. Accept the fact that absolutely everything is overpriced. Our room was more expensive than our recent vacation in Maui, Hawaii where our room was beachfront. Remember, you are a captive audience in a very highly desireable area. Reservations should be completed months in advance. Ours were 9 months in advance. In retrospect, I wish I had gone to Yellowstone when my children were young. It is beautiful and beyond words to describe the scenery and wild animals that roam the area. Not to forget the beauty of the "old faithful" and surrounding geyser activity. We were there for four days and it was enough time for our first visit. We would not hesitate to return and once again stay at the Three Bear Lodge.

Room Tip: Carry your own cooler and bring your own food to save on expenses.
