“Convenient to Yellowstone Park West Entrance”
Reviewed 27 September 2009

We picked this hotel based on pricing and convenience to Yellowstone Park entrance.

This was an average hotel in quiet area of West Yellowstone (at least for September).

When we arrived the rooms had not finished being cleaned but the friendly desk clerk found a room for us. The room was large and comfortable but lighting was poor. There were lots of lamps but they were not bright enough to light the room.

The room had not been thoroughly cleaned. There was a used Crest white strips plastic strip on the bathroom counter. The sink in the area with the microwave and refrigerator had a dried greasy substance on the faucet handle. The spare blanket had crumbs on it.

Wireless did not work on the third floor but I was able to use a neighboring hotel's wireless network.

The AC system had been shut off and the wall control was blank. I was able to find a white box at the right bottom of the wall unit near the window and pressing something that looked like a button was able to turn on the unit. It would have been nice if there were directions on how to do this.

Breakfast was mostly cold food with no hot vegetarian options like scrambled eggs. There is a McDonald's nearby.

When we checked out the desk clerk charged the wrong credit card (reserved versus imprint).

There are several other hotels in the same block that look to be similar in style/age that I would try next time.

Room was clean but not comfortable. I was told the room had two Queen beds. They were only Double. I'm a tall guy so it was pretty uncomfortable. In addition the Locks on the room and bathroom did not work so I was forced to put a chair against the door. They also have a huge gap between door and floor so bright light shined all over the room until I covered it with a towel. I got a large discount on the room making it tolerable. However at $80 price it was not worth it even being so close to the entrance of Yellowstone. Staff wasn't very friendy and I threw my breakfast in the trash because it was freezer burnt.

On its website, this hotel claims to be the newest in West-Yellowstone. I'm not really sure if that is still accurate: although the structure is definately no more than 2 years old, there were several hotels in that part of town that looked very comparable from the outside. From the inside all was fine, but the style of interior came across as a bit cold and basic. The main thing is of course that everything worked, that it was clean, and that the beds were comfortable, but considering the rather steep rate I has expected a bit more luxury. The aircon was not too noisy (although we didn't really need it), and the windows can be opened for fresh air. Free wifi was only in the lobby area and in the rooms immediately surrounding the lobby. Didn't try the free breakfast or the hotel pool so can't comment on that.

Although not directly related to the hotel, let me add that I found West-Yellowstone as a town pretty awful, and that Yellowstone National Park also fell short of expectations. The town and its outlets look very run down and has no atmosphere or charm whatsoever. There was a nice rodeo on some evenings of the week 10 miles outside town, and I enjoyed breakfast at the Running Bear Pancake House, but those are about the only good things I can say of this place. We cut short our stay and moved on to Grand Teton National Park earlier than expected, which we enjoyed much more.

We stayed here for 2 nights during a family trip to YNP. The rooms are plenty large and pretty comforable. They were also clean. The front desk staff were polite and helpful, but didn't go above and beyond. For instance, they would not cash my traveler's cheque. The "deluxe" continental breakfast was disappointing -- only cereal & pastries, and they ran our of coffee -- no fruit or yogurt. On our 2nd morning we decided to go out for breakfast (Running Bear Pancake House). Nonetheless, I would stay here again.

2 years ago while in W. Yellowstone, I saw this hotel being built. I knew this summer while planning vacation, I wanted to stay in this hotel. We arrived way earlier than expected, the clerk let us have a room. It was nice. The bathroom was huge. On the 3rd floor, great view. The pool looked nice, but never used it. Chose it too for laundry, but the machines were broken. Breakfast was good and plenty of spacious room. We slept peacefully on nice clean and comfortable beds. Can't wait to go back.

Great Hotel in West Yellowstone.
We arrived in the small town of West Yellowstone and were rather concerned at the large number of very old and small hotels in town. But then we drove over to the South side of the town where the Yellowstone Park Hotel was located and were happy to see much newer buildings. The Yellowstone Park is brand new and is very clean inside. We were greeted at the front desk by a nice woman who gave us directions and helpful advice about what to do in the area and how to go about seeing Yellowstone. We had a fantastic time and would recommend this hotel to anyone as the best place in town. The only negative experience we had is that my husband has to have a banana each morning and there was none available at breakfast. Otherwise, the breakfast was very nice.

This was a simply average hotel. Given the price, I was expecting quite a bit more. It is obvious that you are paying for location. The rooms were plain, but adequate. The pool looked really popular and fun, if the frolicking kids can be any indication. We didn't try it though. The wireless doesn't work above the first floor, but one of our nights, the network went down completely. The gal at the desk was very helpful though, as my son needed access to complete an online college course assignment. She called over to a sister hotel, and he was allowed to use their wireless in their lobby. She went the extra mile for us. The hotel is close enough to the restaurants so that you don't need to drive, and it is just across the street from the IMAX theater. We had to do wash, and it did seem a bit unusual for a hotel this size to only have one washer and one dryer.

From what I've read, you have to lower your expectations in West Yellowstone, and expect to pay more for what you do get. If you go in understanding this, you can live with what you get.
