“Excellent, comfortable accommodations”
Reviewed 9 July 2014 via mobile

Our Bar-N-Ranch experience was top notch for West Yellowstone. Only 6 miles from town and the entrance to Yellowstone National Park, it provided a great location to experience both inside and outside the Park activities. It also provided us a great spot to relax and recharge with a pool, game room and excellent restaurant. We also had a nice walk down to the Madison River and were able to observe wildlife on the property (e.g., sandhill cranes, deer, etc).

Okay my fellow TA junkies, haven't been in the habit of writing reviews for while (crushing but cool job), but need to contribute as I use the service a lot. Thanks to everyone that write real reviews!

So what to do, visiting Yellowstone Park, need to take the dogs because one is not in the greatest of health (can't walk) and it's not practical to leave them with family or to kennel them. So, awesome, family trip with our furry kids.

As a TA junky, research ridiculously for accommodations that will meet our needs - it's just something that grounds a vacation. After extensive research, found the Bar N Ranch - here's the take.

Location - Traded off staying in the park with staying just outside the park. Tough decision, but worried that the dogs would bark if in a lodge or in a really busy area. Yellowstone lodging in peak season is really really busy (hordes is a better description). Of course many many places do not accept dogs, a real business opportunity given how for many, our dogs are important members of our family. So eventually decided to stay just outside the park. Bar N Ranch is 5 miles or so outside the town of West Yellowstone which is at the edge (2 minutes) to the west Yellowstone park entrance. It actually only takes 5 minutes to get into town as the road there has a speed limit of 70 mph. Fortunately the Bar N Ranch is well off the road (no traffic noise), a few minutes down a 15mph bumpy road. The cabins and lodge are the first thing you hit on the right.

Name - First thought that Bar N Ranch was short for Bar and Ranch - uh no, its name is a bar ( a line) over the letter N. Like a branding symbol for a cow. Drove right by the place as we didn't look at the directions very carefully and thought it was located more in town. The entrance is also near a KOA with cabins/RV park, however Bar N Ranch is located well down the road, but not as far down the road as a tent lodging option with check in signs saying you need to go down the road. We were slightly confused. Bar N Ranch should have their own sign pointing out the location for registration (in the big lodge with the pool) as there is also a Bar N Ranch restaurant that located just past the lodge. Anyway, the location is surrounded by mountain views, welcomingly quiet after a busy day in the park. Sitting on the porch of our cabin, it's lovely listening to the birds and looking at the view. A river is a 1/2 mile walk down a grassy path and has a swinging chair to sit. Very pleasant, and some folks staying in the tent place were swimming.

Check in - Once we found the place (in the lodge), it was efficient. Declared the dogs with no problem, no lecture about anything. We were shown around the lodge, our cabin was pointed to (1 minute walk from the lodge, can park in front). Not a lot of information about the park or much else, but it was fine. She did tell us we should get dinner reservations at the on-site restaurant which we did (using her), but at least the night we ate there, was unnecessary. The lodge has a sitting area, a pool, free coffee (didn't try), extra grills, and ping pong (an ESPN table) and the dogs were allowed on the main floor. One of our dogs watched us play ping pong - it was fun.

Accommodations - We rented a 2 bedroom cabin (Cream Creek Cabin). It was the only place available except for the 4 bedroom cabin. Thought it might be overkill, but wasn't. The "master" bedroom was quite small, there would have been no place to put the luggage. So we used the second bedroom for the luggage and the dog crates - perfect (for families, it has 3 single beds including one bunk bed)! You are allowed to leave your dogs in the cabin unattended in crates, we only did this a of couple times when going to dinner. The master was perfectly comfortable, slept great - linens not fancy but fine. The kitchenette is as basic as you get. A refrigerator, low power ancient microwave, a small sink, 2 spoons, and 2 mugs. Had to buy utensils, plates etc. There is a grill outside with tongs and a scraper. There is also a hot tub. The kitchen actually had a reasonably sized kitchen table which was very handy to put food (ours and the dogs) and all the other stuff one takes on a vacation. The living room is small and has a small flat screen TV with generous cable, could watch the World Cup, Wimbledon, and the Tour de France. WiFi is spotty inside the cabin, but great on the porch. The bathroom has a large jacuzzi tub, plenty of towels. The cabin has a wood burning fireplace, but it was too warm to use. The decor is rustic. Like the trim around the doors and floors is bark, the lamp shade is wrinkled cow hide of sorts. The wooden floors have character, the porch is covered, but no one is going to receive an award for maintenance (the wood could use some loving care). The antlers hung on the wall say it all. This isn't a granite/stainless/modern place - but it has a warm feel and the location is great. In wandering around the lodge, saw one lodge room which looked perfectly fine, balcony would have faced the mountains. A few of the other cabins overlook Moose Pond, they look like they have a better view - don't know which ones they were.

Overall - this was an excellent place for our needs. Glad to escape the busyness of the park, but have very good access. It wasn't cheap, but glad we decided to stay here.

Room Tip: We rented the 2 bedroom Cream Creek Cabin. Thought it might be overkill, but wasn't. The "...

Our family of 6 (two families of 3) stayed here for 6 nights. We were very happy with the Cougar Creek Cabin, the largest of their cabins. The four good sized bedrooms were 2 with kings, 1 with a queen, 1 with two bunk beds of four twins. They also had a pull out sofa. You could easily fit 3 couples and four kids comfortably. The beds were very comfortable. Two full bathrooms with showers/tubs and a half bath. The cabin has a full refrigerator, sink and microwave, but no stove. A wood fireplace. A private hot tub on the back deck with beautiful views! It was very clean and we were offered housekeeping service every day.
The cabin was very nicely decorated in what we would call ranch chic! Lots of attention to detail! There are a few stuffed animals and heads on the walls, so if you don't like taxidermy, it's not for you (though there is taxidermy all over this part of Montana!)
The staff was friendly and helpful. We really had no complaints about the Bar N Ranch and highly recommend it.

The ranch was very relaxing. The cabins & main lodge are log cabins. Decorations reminded you of the old mountain days. The bad thing was that I chose the smallest cabin because of the old claw foot tub. Bad choice, the tub was small & the bathroom was small. The gentleman that took my reservation warned me that it was small, I should have listened. The bed has a horrible mattress that sinks in the middle. Backaches every morning. Nice relaxing location!

Room Tip: Don't choose the small cabin.

Visited this place last week of May 2014. Great location, very clean and quiet. The cabins are very nice with lovely fornitures and comfortable rooms. Barbeque, hot tube and WiFi available. Dishwasher and stove not available. We enjoyed sitting down in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine.
Just six miles far from West Yellowstone so perfect for visiting the beautiful park....
Had a great stay with our cousins from Wenatchee.
There is also a restaurant for breakfast and dinner....

Highly recommended!!!!!!!!

We stayed at the Bar N Ranch for 1 night. We had the smallest room, because it was already a higher budget, but since we're on our honeymoon, we wanted one night in a special accomodation. Special it was. Very nice building with all kind of details. A fireplace and jacuzzi in the room. A bit annoying was the really loud airconditioning that woke me up a few times (the colter room).
We also had dinner at the N ranch. A bit more expensive, but definitely worth it. Amazing views!
I was a bit disappointed in the fact they didn't do anything for our honeymoon, not in the hotel, not in the restaurant. Not even a 'congratulations'.
Also, you pay for the room for the night and receive a 12$ voucher for breakfast. But unless you just take only one drink and one of the cheapest options, you have to pay extra.

Bar N ranch is so incredibly comfortable, we had a hard time wrenching ourselves away to visit Yellowstone! I stay in hotels about 200 nights a year, and this was the best hotel bed I've ever experienced. In-room fireplaces, elk-watching from the porch, lush creek running through the ranch, fine, fine dining... we still talk about this place!

Room Tip: All the rooms are slightly different, so talk with the front desk to ensure you get the best fit.
