It's not the fanciest place, but rooms are good, with enough space and clean. Everything worked we'll (WiFi, TV etc.). Most of all you have everything you need (restaurant, post office etc.) around the corner and reach the Yellowstone National Park within minutes. The best alternative to the expensive hotels and lodges!

Wife and I stayed at Lazy G Motel in June, 2013. Wonderful experience! Booked direct and got better rate than on-line. Family run business and all were very friendly and helpful. Our room had kitchenette with recently updated appliances. Rooms were cleanest hotel rooms we have ever stayed in. Water was hot! Hotel is located on the west edge of town, away from all the touristy areas of West Yellowstone.

My wife and I stayed three nights in West Yellowstone at the Lazy G because of its proximity to the National Park. We enjoyed our stay at the Lazy G – the motel shows the pride of ownership of a small, family-run enterprise, and we thought it was an excellent value. A detailed review of the Lazy G, including the pros (and a few cons), follows.

Reservations were easy to make, we just called the number on the website. Because it was high season, and we were calling only a few weeks in advance of our trip, we couldn’t get the original dates we wanted but we shifted our trip by a couple of days and got a queen bed, nonsmoking room. The price was $85 a night plus tax – a much better rate than the W Yellowstone chain motels (e.g., Holiday Inn) were asking for the same dates.

The Lazy G was easy to locate. West Yellowstone is not that big, and the Motel is on the edge of town as you approach from the West. There is a reasonably priced breakfast restaurant (the Running Bear) only a block away, and a nice place for dinner (the Geyser Grill) just two blocks in the other direction.

Check-in at the Lazy G was quick and friendly. We stayed in Room 14, on the second floor of the motel. The room had plenty of space. The décor was a bit spartan, but the furniture, carpets, and bathroom fixtures were in good condition and everything was very clean. The bed was nice and firm, just the way I like it since I have a bad back.

The room had several nice touches, including a small fridge (which was already cold when we arrived), a small microwave, a small coffee pot, and a hair dryer. The water pressure was good, and in both the morning and evening there was plenty of hot water for the shower. The TV was an older model, but it worked fine and there were plenty of cable channels to choose from.

The free Wi-Fi connection was very good. On a couple of occasions, I used it to stream video off the internet, and the connection was fast enough to accommodate the video, with only a minor hiccup every fifteen minutes or so.

The Lazy G is perfect for light sleepers. Our room on the second floor was very quiet. We had neighbors in both adjoining rooms, and also below us, but never heard any sounds through the walls or floors. There was no traffic outside, and so no street noise. Very nice. Maid service was also good – our rooms were made up each day while we were inside the Park.

Nothing is perfect, and so let me mention two very minor issues. First, the Lazy G rooms have no air conditioning. Normally, this would not be important, except for maybe some very rare weather conditions. We were visiting at the beginning of summer (June 21), and with the high altitude of West Yellowstone the day-time highs were only in the 50s and 60s, and so no air conditioning was necessary. I doubt that even at the height of summer the daytime temps get much higher than 70s or low 80s because of the high altitude, so a/c would still not be necessary. Interestingly, at night we noticed that our room began to heat up (probably from body heat) even though the baseboard heat was off. I attribute that night-time warming to very good room insulation – which would be a big plus in the winter time! We easily counteracted the heat by opening the window in the rear just a few inches to let in the cold night air, and the temperature then went down to a comfortable sleeping level.

Our room also had a ceiling fan. The good thing about the ceiling fan was that it kept the air moving in the room, and also that it was extremely quiet. The bad thing, however, was that the fan hung so low in the room. The room ceiling itself was pretty low, and the fan itself came down to about seven feet above the floor. So if you are tall (above six feet) like me, it was easy to hit the fan if you raised your arms above your head. In fact, I hit the fan with my hand three times – twice when changing clothes, and once when stretching out a power cord. Luckily, there was no damage to my hand, as the fan does not turn quickly and the blades were not sharp. But it was annoying to have my hand thwacked! In fact, the silence of the fan works against a taller person, because it was easy to forget that the fan was up there and spinning around!

Despite the minor issue with the fan, my wife and I highly recommend the Lazy G Motel!

Cozy and quaint, Lazy G Motel is an excellent place to crash while exploring Yellowstone. Convenient location. Fantastic value. Extremely accommodating, and very friendly staff. Even had a refrigerator in our room, which was perfect for us. Among the best lodging in Yellowstone. Thanks for helping make our trip to Yellowstone great!

First the negatives - no microwave or AC in our roomo. But we didn't need either, and in West Yellowstone you will never need AC unless you are hanging around the motel in the middle of the day in August.

Now the positives - newly remodeled but still rustic, very clean, roomy, comfortable, great heating, no pets, no smoking off the main road so quiet, fridge in room, free wifi, great pictures of Yellowstone on the walls, nice roomy parking lot, very pleasant stay (free coffee too but we don't use it.) Way better than most places I have stayed.

When we got here my wife said, "Hey we were supposed to have two beds". We did - the other queen was in the attached bedroom! The room was a suite for a very good price. Very nice since we had kids with us.

I don't know if all the rooms are as good as ours but this is our new favorite for West Yellowstone.

We chose it based on Tripadvisor ratings, as we did for the restaurants. Tripadvisor is awesome!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was lovely and comfortable and light, perfect for two, and the owner was friendly and helpful. It was very close to the Running Bear, which was good for breakfast. Excellent value.

Great motel for the price. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Location was also great. We will return again when coming back to Yellowstone. We found this motel on the internet most of the major hotels prices were a lot higher and were already full. We thought we would take a chance on a motel that was not a chain and were delighted we did!!!!!!!
