“Run Away as Fast as You Can”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2009

We read the reviews before booking our stay. There were mixed opinions and our options were limited due to a last minute trip. We decided to try it out.

We spent $200 a night on a 1 bedroom suite.

The room was disgusting. When we first entered the rooms, the children asked why the floor hadn't been vacuumed. (Pretty bad when a 5 yeard old notices.) When we pulled out the sofa bed, we discovered dirty bedsheets still on the bed. We called the front desk who was kind enough to bring some sheets down. However, when we said we were disappointed to find the dirty room, his response was that 'He wasn't responsible for housekeeping."

Next, we went into the bedroom. We found dirty earplugs in one of the queen beds. If that's not enough, we then found a dirty sock on the floor covered in dirt and grim. Last, but certainly not least, there was a lot of mold growing on the ceilings and around the fixtures in the bathroom.

This place was absolutely filthy. If we would have been able to find other accomodations, we would have left. I will NEVER stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

When considering the price differences between the Gray Wolf and some of the other name-brand hotels in West Yellowstone we didn't have very high expectations for the Gray Wolf -- we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were nice, the breakfast was good, and most importantly it's only a couple of blocks away from all the shops of West Yellowstone and the entrance to Yellowstone Park. It is expensive, but the folks on here who complain about the price should look at the comparables in town -- It's West Yellowstone, not West Fargo.

I stayed in a suite with 4 children and my wife. The room was spacious, with a full kitchen and plenty of room for the kids. The continental breakfast was great for the kids. The location was convenient for access to Yellowstone park. The pool was a little small for the kids, but they still enjoyed it. My only complaint was noise from neighboring rooms. The rooms could have been sound proofed better.

A great deal for the money. Large, very clean room; great breakfast. We stayed there just before the tourist season officially began, so that may have been the reason for a good deal. We actually paid $10 LESS for this room than we did for a Super 8 room the night before.

We stayed at the Gray Wolf during our visit to the national park. The check in and maintenance staff were courteous and helpful. The price was steep, but most hotels in this town are pricey. The continental breakfast was very good. It was interesting to talk to the people from different countries and hear their comments on the hotel and the park. All the comments were favorable. The hotel is very well located; close to the town and the park, but still at a quiet end of the town.

We booked a 1 bdrm suite with full kitchen at the Grey Wolf Inn in early Sept. The price was too high, but with 3 children, regular hotel rooms don't work for us. We like to cook our own dinners to save money and time. The room was big enough. The sofa bed was hideous. I had to get 4 extra blankets from the front desk to make it even tolerable to my young children, who can generally sleep on anything. The shower curtain gave off a hideous mildrew smell when the shower was turned on. The cleaning staff did change it the next day on our request. Housekeeping was marginal. We generally only received 4 towels, when they knew 5 people were in the room. Although I did not expect the housekeeper to clean up our dishes, having the counters wiped down would have been a plus. The kitchen was poorly equipped. Most of the dishes were still in the dishwasher. The only lid for the frying pan had a handle made out of twist-ties. The breakfast was okay if you weren't too timid to push your way through bus loads of foreign tourists to get your share. We always had to make several trips and take our food to our room, there was never a table open. We could have timed this better I suppose. I wish I had known about Trip Advisor before booking this hotel. It would have saved us some frustration.

  • Liked — proximity to Yellowstone Nat'l Park
  • Disliked — sofa bed, poorly equipped kitchen

We stayed at the Grey Wolf for 2 weekend nights in early July and paid $161 per night before taxes.

Location is just across the street from the Grizzly discovery center and within easy walking distance of tourist information and the town center.

Our room, while not spotless, was not as dirty as stated in some of the earlier posts. However, the common areas had significant problems. Outdoor ashbins were overflowing (and not emptied during our stay), the dining area was not well maintained (trash emptied, tables wiped, beverages stocked), trash/litter in the hallways, and 2 of the 3 ice machines were broken.

The breakfast selections are exclusively starch; cereal, bakery items, do-it-yourself toast/waffles. No fruit, No yogurt, No protein.

It was also very loud in our room. The walls are not well insulated, and even worse was the noise from overhead.

When we arrived in West Yellowstone mid-afternoon, many places had vacancies posted. Next time, even during tourist season, I’ll take my chances of sleeping in the car before staying at the Grey Wolf again.
