When you take much-needed vacation, a mental break from the daily stresses of work and home life, what is ideal? New experiences, new atmosphere, new perspective. But you remain accustomed to certain comforts which would, while away from home, be surely welcomed. A vacation to see the wonders of the great Glacier National Park requires time--hiking, driving the expansive park, fishing, etc. With that, what do you seek in a hotel or B &B to seek the necessary repose to regain your strength and energy to continue to visit the park over the ourse of several days or more? You want an accomodation that comforts you, that provides superb comfort food, that provides a bit of solitude after that day of stenuous activities; you want innkeepers who can direct and advise you. You'd also like a town with multiple excellent restaurants, in walking distance since you drove enough that day. That inn is the Garden Wall Inn. That town is Whitefish, Montana. The multiple positive reviews are true-This is the Place! Besides the comforts, the owners, Rhonda and Chris are superb in all facets-advice, attractions, restaurants. They live here, they work here, they play here---totally invested. And they share that knowledge and their experiences with aplomb. The great park, the town of Whitefish, the great little inn-Garden Wall Inn, all will remain in your memory forever. I know I'll be back--soon!

We had high expectations for our stay based on the fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. What a wonderful experience! Chris & Rhonda made sure our visit to Whitefish and Glacier National Park was enjoyable and memorable. The inn is comfortable and inviting. The food and service is 5 Star all the way! Book your reservation early and stay at least 4 nights - because you will not want to leave!

Room Tip: I did not see any rooms other than our own, however we had a very comfortable 2nd floor room with ki...

We spent 4 nights while visiting Glacier National Park and returned for one night before flying out. Upon our return, it truly felt like a homecoming. The hospitality, service, food and attention to detail are absolutely impeccable. Owners Chris and Rhonda are gracious, warm and welcoming, and have literally thought of everything to make their guests feel both pampered and at home. They made restaurant reservations for us, gave us maps and information about the park and the area, served drinks and hors d'oeuvres each evening and coffee on a silver tray brought to our room in the morning. The owners are trained chefs and the breakfasts are beyond 5 star quality. The imaginative and varied dishes, made from locally sourced ingredients are both delicious and a feast for the eyes. We enjoyed everything about our stay, and were very sad to leave.

Flawless. We stayed 2 nights to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and picked a gem of a hotel.
The personal warm welcome from hosts Chris & Rhonda was more in keeping with friends meeting again rather than a hotel front desk. This was the first of many instances showing their attention to detail and their obvious joy in focusing on their guests.
The Inn is charming with great attention to period details. The bedroom was large with a nice en- suite. We enjoyed Gourmet breakfasts and the evening aperitifs. The Inn is located within easy walking distance of the town and this allowed for car free strolls for shopping and dining.
In a world of corporate hospitality and cookie cutter hotels, it is a joy to find a personal hotel with such superb standards.

We spent several nights at the Garden Wall Inn in February and we were taken aback about How wonderful and perfect everything was. The innkeepers Chris and Rhonda are doing an amazing job and will spoil you forever, upon arrival we were greeted very friendly and Chris made sure to make a reservation for our dinner. The house is beautiful and perfectly decorated. Before breakfast, they bring coffee or tea to your room, on a tray with a fresh rose! Breakfast is absolutely delicious, they are great chefs. In the evening, they prepare some snacks and offer sherry, beer or wine. They also can give you good advice where to eat and what to do and Chris knows everything about Glacier National Park. We really hope that we can stay there again.

Our family (six persons) was in Whitefish for a celebration this last June. We'd booked into the Garden Wall Inn largely on the basis of internet recommendations. We were not disappointed.

The inn is located in a cozy 1920's bungalow that's just two short blocks from the downtown Whitefish retail district. While the inn faces onto a main street, it is still very quiet inside. The interior reminded us of Berkeley craftsman style both in architecture and decor. Most of the furnishings are period-appropriate antiques. We were pleased to see that some of the Audobon prints on the wall are the same as ours at home. The neighborhood is quiet and tree-shaded. Access to Eureka in the north and Glacier National Park to the east is easy.

The best part of staying at the Garden Wall Inn are the hosts, Chris and Rhonda. Chris is an excellent host, and was a major part of our enjoying our stay in Whitefish. He even helped regularly in muscling a wheelchair up and down the entry steps. (Wheelchair bound guests should reserve the first floor bedroom, which is readily accessible to the living room and dining room. The bathroom for this bedroom is marginally accessible). If you are totally wheelchair bound this may make the Garden Wall Inn impractical for you.

Chris is a local who returned to Whitefish after living and working in other parts of the country, and enjoys sharing his local knowledge so as to make your stay more enjoyable. Rhonda is an excellent baker, and she and Chris make a very effective team.

Both Rhonda and Chris cook. Breakfasts at the Inn are a wonderful way to start the day. Fresh french press coffee (and a rose) are delivered to your room a half hour before breakfast. Breakfast for the four days we were in residence consisted of a mixed fresh fruit dish, home-baked fresh muffins, fresh juice, more coffee or tea and a savory breakfast dish.

One such dish was locally smoked trout and a coddled egg. Another was puff pastry stuffed with scrambled eggs, mushrooms and seafood. Yum! Hors d'oeuvres in the evening included a pleasant dry sherry, cheeses and other nibbles.

As with a number of other restaurants in the Whitefish area they use as much locally sourced meat, fruit and vegetables as possible. Herbs come from their own backyard garden. Their homemade breakfast bacon (local pork loin), huckleberries and smoked trout were all really delicious.

The Garden Wall Inn leaves a chocolate truffle in your room for each guest at night-time. Unlike many other places these were really good chocolates, made by a local chocolatier in downtown Whitefish. By the way, the local chocolate place also sells used books and home-made gelato, all under one small roof.

As one might expect Chris is willing to book dinner reservations for his guests and can get a good table on short notice at local restaurants. Local places can be crowded during the summer tourist season (we have no experience of the winter season.

We only had one day free that we could devote to Glacier National Park and the Highway to the Sun was still closed at Cedars Trail in early June. We'll definitely be back to spend more time at Glacier, and would like to visit during the Winter Carnival in February. In any event, we'll be staying at the Garden Wall Inn. It's an excellent value for your money - location, service, charm and food!

Room Tip: We had one room downstairs and two rooms with shared bath upstairs. All were fine.
