“Great value and friendly service”
Reviewed 29 July 2012

We booked a last minute trip to Whitefish and stayed at the Hibernation House. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had no real issues with the place. Its not a 5 star hotel, but the value was excellent, including a nice breakfast! There is no air conditioning, the rooms smelt a bit funny, and the bed sagged a bit, but you get what you pay for. We would stay here again.

Cathy and the crew took excellent care of us. After my wife suffered a broken leg they went way out of their way to switch our rooms, explore our needs and assist us in every way they could. We could not have been made to feel more at ease. And I thought customer service was a thing of the past...I was wrong....Go to Hibernation House, you won't be sorry.

Room Tip: There is no elevator so plan accordingly

We stayed here for a couple nights in July prior to going on into Glacier NP. We thought it was excellent value for the money. The staff was some of the friendliest and most helpful of any hotel I've stayed in. Very personal, down to earth, gave us some great recommendations on restaurants etc. in Whitefish. Continental breakfast was good also. Rooms were very basic, but clean. I think what stuck with me the most was the attitude of the staff, they really CARED about your satisfaction. Note, this is up on the mountain in the ski resort, so it's a few miles from Whitefish itself, and there is NOT a lot going on in the resort in the summer. So you have to drive into Whitefish every day for entertainment.

For the price, I don't think you can get much better. It is literally right on the mountain, so easy to ski to the door for lunch, a break, whatever it may be. The hot breakfast provides the perfect fuel for a day of skiing. The only complaint is the very thin walls.....people moving around late at night or early in the morning; slamming doors, yelling at people to wake up......I could have done without. Other than that, everything was great!

Nothing fancy at all - almost like a hostel with private rooms - but if you are skiing it is in a great location. Decent breakfast spread. Good hot tub. If it is off-season and the hill isn't open and the main reason you are visiting is to enjoy Whitefish the town, then this place is a little out of the way. Great value. Would stay here again if I was skiing, but wouldn't otherwise.

This is all we need in a ski hotel. The rooms are similar to a tired best western but the beds and bedding are just fine. A variety of cold items are served at breakfast along with a hot entree such as french toast and sausage. You can walk across the street to begin skiing and ski directly back to the hotel afterwards. There is a shuttle to take you wherever you want to go in the village but it's hardly needed because everything is so close. It looks to be a great family friendly place in addition to being an excellent spot for the hardcore skiier. Kathy at the front desk is wonderful. For $90 who could ask for more? My only suggestion is that if you want to sleep in you should bring earplugs because once people start walking around and talking you hear it all. We were in room 218 which was at the top of the stairwell so all of the morning breakfast noise drifted up to us. I realize that skiiers tend to think everyone should be up once they are. I will wear my earplugs tonight. I still recommend this for the value.

Room Tip: Maybe try to be away from the stairwell

Not only is the value of this hotel/ski package extraordinary, the staff is exceptional and the feeling is very cozy, like you are at home. The hot breakfast every morning is a great way to start the day. The rooms are a little on the small side but by the time we made it back to the room, we were so tired it didn't matter. If you are looking for the "resort" experience, this hotel is not for you, if you are looking for a great skiing experience, this IS the place for you. We met so many interesting people, all talking about their ski runs on the mountain. We are already talking about next year at Hibernation House!
