We traveled to Montana for a 2 and 1/2 week national park vacation. Glacier has always been my favorite and the surrounding area. This hotel was about 30 minutes away from Glacier National Park. The setting is beautiful, and the hotel is at the base of a ski mountain. I loved how huge the rooms size was, and the fire place and flate screen TV's. The bathroom was also very large. The hotel had a really great rest. and bar, and the hot tub and pool were fantastic! The only problem we encountoured was a sprinkler head broke in one of the guest rooms a few doors down from ours at about 1am. Everyone had to leave the building until it was safe to go back inside. Being a hotel mamager myself and actually having the same exact freak accident happen at my hotel last year we were very understanding that it was not the hotels fault. I was suprised that we were not offered anything for the trouble, but to each his own. Also we had trouble three days in a row with our key cards, and we were in the Viking building so it was a little bit more inconvienant to get new ones. But overall I would absolutly stay here again, and recomend you too as well.

Room Tip: I think requesting a room with a woods view is the best. Or get a room in the Viking building next t...

We stayed at the Lodge in July, after 2 nights in Glacier Park (at Park properties). Although I can't say enough about that experience, checking in to the Lodge was a welcome retreat. From the roaring fire in the outdoor fireplace as you pull-up to the Lodge, to the full sized Grizzly in the lobby (gives you some perspective about an encounter you successfully avoided in the park), to the spacious, well appointed rooms and beautiful bathrooms, the Lodge is a retreat for you and your family to relax and recharge after exploring. We loved this place. The location - just outside of Whitefish is great and the only downside is that it is located right on the road. Although we had a partial lake view, we could hear the road from our room. The same might not be true for true lakeview rooms. Having said that, the two balconies, kitchenette, fireplace and spacious room made this place more than worth it.

They really messed up. I stayed there a night for my sister's wedding and the wedding was held there. It was planned with them a year in advance.

3 "circles" for the location.
ZERO for the service. It was embarrassing how bad. Highlights:
Small room far from wedding location.
None of the planners present - zero management
Set up wrong (no seating for 20 out of 90 guests)
Ran out of food after 1/3 of guests served themselves.
Dining room no where near the view and in a conference room

It was humiliating and it was the one place we thought we didn't have to worry about. The bill was thousands and thousands of dollars for BRUNCH and they totally blew it! The bride (my sister) was pretty devastated.

The amount they knocked off the bill - insulting.

Room Tip: Don't book your wedding here.

Dear sister-of-the-bride,
Thank you for your review. I wish we could have apologized in person. You are absolutely right, we couldn't feel worse about your sister's and your experience.
The location for the brunch was chosen by your mother and sister. We had availability in the lakefront pavilion, however your family chose to have the brunch in our ballroom.
As the wedding was at 11:30am on a Wednesday, our typical wedding protocol was ascue. We did have management on property however, we have learned from this experience that food and beverage management need to be in the actual room monitoring more often.
The amount of food and number of guest on the banquet information was incorrect and human error unfortunately took place. We have over 200 weddings per year and we haven't had a situation like this occur until your sister's wedding.
An agreement was made with your mother to take off a portion of the bill. Our feeling was that she felt the agreement was reasonable. I am sorry you feel insulted, but your mother did not give us the impression our offer was inadequate.
Sincerely,
Fabienne

We recently stayed 4 nights at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake, as we were traveling for the first time to Montana for a wedding in the area. We booked our rooms in advance through the resort's website which was hassle free. We booked 4 nights in the Viking Lodge which is a new wing to the Lodge at Whitefish Lake that was built very recently (cannot remember the exact date) and is situated across the road from the main lodge, but is easy to access through the skyway bridge across the street.

Upon arrival to FCA (Glacier International Airport) we were greeted by an extremely friendly concierge who drove us to the resort. So far the stay was off to a great start, as during our car ride, she pointed out some local facts and also some great things to see/do during our time at Glacier. Prior to our trip, the concierge staff had corresponded with us regarding a few things - most notably car rental service. They had indicated and given us the impression that it would be no problem to rent a car during our stay there, only to find out upon arrival that every car rental company was sold out of cars. We ended up having a car for only one day (the last full-day of our stay) and we had to have the hotel shuttle service take us to the airport in order for us to pick up the car. I HIGHLY recommend - regardless of what the concierge or anyone says - figuring out your transportation and car rental services in advance of your stay to avoid this situation.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly bellhop/valet and also very friendly check-in / reservations desk. We were very impressed with the Viking Lodge rooms - great size for the price you pay (even during peak times) but some have poor views - ours overlooked the parking lot (great people watching at times, but very loud!). The room has all the amenities you would expect in a 4-Diamond resort - including (complimentary - easy to use!) wi-fi, 42 inch plasma tv - conveniently positioned over the fireplace, new, modern bathrooms etc. Only recommendation here would be to upgrade the hairdryers ---- the one we had in our room looked to be extremely used and not very energy efficient, plus it was very dirty! Our Viking Lodge room came with a mini-fridge and also an easy to use microwave.

The view from the Lodge of Whitefish Lake is gorgeous!!!! We really had a nice time sitting out by the lake at the Tiki Lounge enjoying the views - however - BEWARE the service is HORRIBLE here and is probably the most inexperienced servers we have had during our visits to many 4 Diamond resorts. The management team was also some of the most unprofessional and uncourteous that I have experienced - both in the Boat Club (in-house dining) and at the Tiki Lounge. We had 12 of our friends over to enjoy the view and to dine at the Tiki Lounge and they put the most inexperienced server on our table who could barely handle the tray and the drink orders much less take orders from a table of 12. We spoke to the manager (Tom) and he had one of his servers come over to apologize and ultimately explain to us that she would be taking over our table and giving us a 25% discount and also taking off the item that had a plastic tag in it off the bill......to me, this was fairly rude and disprespectful from the manager - as he should have had the courage and professionalism to address the concerns of the table himself vs. send in someone else ---- really not what you would expect from a 4-Diamond resort. My strong recommendation here is to dine elsewhere in Whitefish - there are so many great places downtown Whitefish. Ironically - The nicest service staff we enountered was the maid service - as they would smile and greet us as we were coming and going from our room and in the hallways - perhaps they should provide the same type of customer service training to their waitstaff in the restaurants. The Coffee Dock is horrible - poor, sloooooooow service, the buffet is over-priced at $12 and change for a very cold selection of eggs, undercooked to the point of looking raw bacon, sausage that was way over cooked - perhaps if they averaged the two meats out they would have had the right combination there, and really poor selection of other breakfast pastries and cereal items. Dine somewhere else if you can!

Also - I did notice that the fire alarm had gone off in another reviewer's review of this lodge and we had the same thing occur during our stay but instead of at 1 am in the morning it was at 5 am in the morning and went off for almost an hour. We were standing outside in the damp air (as it had just rained) with no direction from any hotel staff and (of course) no apology or direction from anyone when it FINALLY subsided. This has occurred when we have stayed elsewhere and typically we get some time of complimentary morning coffee or something to pardon their inconvenience and huge disruption to our stay ----- really, again not 4 Diamond service.

I would love to recommend this place to everyone based on the view - but regrettably I cannot - as the service is just too uneven for what they claim it to be.

Dear guest,
Thank you for your response. As we have said before, we can only grow and improve by hearing from guests directly.
This summer was the first time we have experience such large volumes of people in the valley. Typically, car rentals can be taken care of once guests arrive, however; those days are gone and we will now have our concierge suggest booking car rentals in advance throughout the summer months.
Thank you for your recomendations about the hair dryers. We have found that the humidity in the bathroom causes them to act up. We will look into purchasing different hair dryers.
We are actively taking steps to change the environment at the tiki bar, Coffee Dock and Boat Club restaurant and lounge. We can only hope you will visit us again and see a noticable difference the next time.
We are addressing the alarm issue in the new Viking. When the power goes out, it trips the alarm system. We apologize for not offering complimentary coffee for your trouble.
Thank you again for the feedback. We are doing our best to improve in all areas you've pointed out.
Sincerely,
Fabienne

My family spent three days here and it wasn't long enough. We loved our room, the facilities, and the location. Our room was large and we actually saw deer 10 feet from our window. We would recommend this to all our family and friends and we will stay again.

Good size room, with great bathroom and peekaboo view of the lake. Only two drawers (under the tv) for storage besides the closet. My main complaint is that the band in the bar played past 9:00 PM on a Wednesday night and was very loud in our room. Had to call the front desk to complain. Maybe I am just an old fogey for trying to sleep that early. Paid over $1000 for three nights and this ruined my visit.

While providing live music in the lounge is great for our restaurant patrons, we must keep our other hotel guests in mind. Thank you for your feedback. We will adjust the volume level and more closely monitor the cut-off time on Wednesday nights.

The Lodge is a newer hotel in a spectacular location, in lovely Whitefish, directly on Whitefish Lake. Excellent lake view from the that side of the hotel, which includes rooms, restaurants inside and out, espresso shop, and from the pool and bar on the lower level. My room in the annex was large, clean, new and pleasant. Very quiet and dark at night, and I slept soundly in the comfortable bed. It is one of the few places in Montana with real front door/front desk service, with prompt valet parking, bellboys and efficient check in. The business aspect of things went very well.

The hotel was full of families with children, which I expect is the norm in the summer, when Whitefish is packed with visitors. Might not be the perfect place for a romantic getaway, in the summer at least. However, I can imagine that it would be perfect for that after Labor Day. Minor complaint - a couple of calls to the concierge were answered by voicemail, with a pledge to call back soon.
