“Kandahar Lodge Ski Trip”
Reviewed 9 March 2010

The Kandahar was a nice experience. I stayed in two different rooms while visiting. The loft was very cramped for adults with luggage. There are 2 beds in the loft and they really don't fit well as they are both queen size. Getting past one to get down the stairs can be tricky. There is one night stand in the loft so whoever gets the other bed will have to make one out of their luggage at the foot of the bed. Below the loft there is a queen bed with night stand, a dresser and tv. Very nice down stairs, very cramped up stairs. Also, beware that the lofts are located on the 3rd floor which is actually the 4th floor because there is a Ground floor. There is no elevator. After a few days of skiing the 3rd floor is quite a task if you should forget something and have to go back to your room.

I also stayed on the first floor in a regular room. It was very nice and had no night stands. I made a night stand out of one of the dressers. The bathrooms in both were very well equipped and the room also had a iron and ironing board. Also, the lodge has laundry facilities which only cost 50 cents. The staff is very nice and the lodge provides a shuttle which only takes 3 minutes to get to the bottom of lift 2 both coming and going. There is access to slopes behind the lodge but I didn't try to use them as I heard the conditions at the time were not favorable.

The Wifi was not a strong signal in the rooms but I was able to pick it up in the lobby. Also, it is an unsecured network. Cell phone reception was not very good on the mountain at all. Verizon customers were able to pick up a signal outside but it was not always strong.

Breakfast was not hot, but there was a good variety of bagels, cream cheese, jellies, large muffins, fruit, hard boiled eggs and drinks, juices and coffees. In the afternoon the lodge provided a selection of cookies and coffee.

The lobby in the lodge is very friendly. The other guests seemed to like to congregate there to read books or to chat. It is right across from the little bar which is also a very friendly atmosphere. The restaurant inside the lodge is very formal but without a formal attitude. In other words the staff is formal but the guests are informal. I was able to select from the menu a four course meal or simply pick and choose which parts of the four course meal I wanted, which is what I did. Overall, I was very pleased with the Kandahar Lodge.

We rode the train in from Seattle for a week of skiing at Whitefish. We had never been there before, so didn't really know what to expect.

The Kandahar lodge is located a short walk to the diminutive village at Whitefish, and has easy access onto and off of the ski slopes. Cross the parking lot, strap on your ski's and take a short cat track to chair 6, which then feeds you up to the base of the high speed quads that serve the mountain, coming down at the end of the day is just the reverse.

The room was clean and tidy with a large flat screen hd tv (which was handy for watching the olympics) the lobby was a great place to read over coffee and breakfast in the morning while the family continued to sleep.

The Kandahar Cafe is not really a cafe, but is a fine dining experience that is not to be missed. We had one of the very best meals that we have had in a very long time. Great wine selection, and the food was spectacular local fare (the elk and bison were both exquisite)

Off of the lobby is a very cozy and intimate little bar that is open in the evenings.

All in all it the Kandahar lodge was a key element of a wonderful family ski vacation.

Wow! What can I say but what a terrific place?? My boyfriend and I decided to stay at the Kandahar Lodge after a recommendation from a friend. We arrived there and were immediately welcomed by the staff. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms which was beautiful. It was incredibly convenient for us to walk accross the street and ski right into the slopes. After a day of skiing you can either ski right back to the lodge or call the Kandahar for free pickup, which I had done several times. we enjoyed coming down stairs and finding fresh baked cookies. The fireplace was beautiful and enjoyed all the people sitting around telling stories. We had dinner at the Kandahar Cafe....What a great meal!!! We have traveled to many places and truly believe the food at this place was a gem. We will be definitely be coming back next year and give it a 5 star rating!!!

Everyone is so friendly and the Snug's Bar is great. The central lounge fireplace and meeting area was fantastic. Lodge is right on the mountain and you can ski right back to the lodge. The associated restaurant is 5 star!!

Wow! - Glacier Park, Big Mountain Ski Resort, fabulous restaurants in the town of Whitefish. I can't wait to visit this place again this summer. The Kandahar Lodge was perfect. The rooms are beautiful. The restaurant is only open for dinner (weekends for brunch), but it is an absolute first class experience. The Lodge does a nice, free breakfast every morning in the lobby area. There is also a super coffee bar called Expresso Montano. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I loved sitting in the large, leather filled lobby reading or checking e-mail (on high speed WiFi) watching the fire burn and drinking a great glass of wine from the Snug Bar. They tell me golf in the area is spectacular, so we will be back this summer.

IF charming, enchanting, wonderful are in your vocabulary... then Kandahar is the place for you!
Simply Wonderful. From Laurie and Rick greeting you at the front desk... to Paul helping and assisting so much! (they do help you with your bags up the steps to your room)
Andy and Tom in the SNUG Bar... to Housekeeping staff... Everyone is so kind at Kandahar!
The 24/7 roaring fire keeps the lobby/living area so comfy... you will meet so many folks from so many different places. It is a family place... a very welcoming place to call home for as long as you stay.
The continental breakfast more than fills your morning hunger...
The snug bar can replinish your thirst!
The Kandahar Cafe is a wonderful dining experience...
The 'small plates' that are offered are a treat in the lobby area.
(the elk burger was devine).
The hot tub is great... the work out room offered all that we needed to exercise.
The ski room is just off the lobby to get geared up!
A TRUE DELIGHT! We will return as soon as possible! My Husband LOVED skiing the mountain... no lines... great condition...
PLUS... downtown is AWESOME!

I traveled from Seattle along with family to do some Montana powder skiing and snowboarding. We were absolutely delighted with the quality of Kandahar lodge and their staff. People went out of their way to help us. We had 3 feet of snow accumulate on our car while there and they kept it shoveled out and swept off. We went off skiing early most days ignoring our chores and the room was tidy and clean upon return. We needed a place to do some work on our skis and they accommodated us.

The quality of their building is exceptional and is maintained with the highest standards. They have a great boot warming and ski room. In the morning, after breakfast, we walked downstairs, put on your warm boots, picked up your skis, and walked a short way to get on a groomed trail. We skied home for lunch to warm up and headed out again until lifts closed. At the end of the day we'd catch a trail called "Home Again" that brought us back to the lodge. To loosen up for the next day, we'd enjoy their huge outdoor hot tub and indoor steam room. We'll definitely be back to enjoy another week of relaxation and great Montana skiing. The lodge and staff are remarkable with a true Montana lodge feel and people who are genuinely kind. They care that you have a good time. I've recommended them to colleagues and friends looking for a great ski trip and relaxing week in Montana.
