Well...this place was just a little weird. Great spot with pretensions of being a luxury location, but without the sensibility to back it up. I'm sure it's a great place to be in the winter, sitting around the big fireplace apres ski, but in the summer you notice all the negatives: No elevator (and we were on the fourth floor). Indifferent housekeeping staff (had to complain when we received a notice that our room wouldn't be serviced after 10 AM!). Very limited parking at hotel - rest was across the street and down a hill. Oh, and as we were leaving after checkout, a desk clerk came running out to the car with an envelope yelling "I was supposed to give you this!" - an important message that had been received two days earlier! Location is key for this place, and I'm sure that gives them the freedom to be a bit iffy - but there's plenty of condos to rent if you want to stay on the mountain, and The Lodge at Whitefish in town is supposed to be excellent. A shame we didn't know about it before picking the Kandahar.

Thank you for your review regarding Kandahar Lodge. We are sorry to read that you think our 50 room boutique hotel is "weird". Kandahar Lodge is located at Whitefish Mountain Resort. Whitefish Mountain Resort is a ski resort, established in 1947. Yes, Kandahar Lodge does not have an elevator. We make no pretense to this fact. Kandahar Lodge was built in 1981 without an elevator nor does the hotel plan to add an elevator. Yes, we do have limited parking in front of the hotel, but plenty of parking is available within walking distance.

The message that was to be given to the guest was in fact given to the guest upon check-out per the instructions of the person who wrote the message.

The notice that was left under the door regarding housekeeping not servicing the room was from the previous day in which a "Do Not Disturb" sign was observed. Our guests privacy is highly valued at Kandahar Lodge.

We hope that you would consider staying at Kandahar Lodge in the future.

We chose this place for our first night on trip to Glacier-Waterton Park because it was close enough to airport and friends had recommended restaurant. Dinner was very good. Room was OK and location was OK. Breakfast (continental bkfast included) was pre-packaged pastries and not good). Lobby was charming and staff was very friendly. Room was fine - one bed was very soft and the other was good.

The room was nice but dark. Some missing lightbulbs in bathroom, not very bright to begin with. Carpet was wet by the refrigerator so room was musty we called the front desk and they fixed it quickly. Resteraunt on site was awesome. Very much a lodge would be great fun during ski season. A little disapointed in the ambience. There wasn't alot of extras in the rooms like shampoo, soaps, etc. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained lovely location.

Nothing beats the Kandahar Lodge!! This is a wonderful hotel right on Whitefish Mountain. The staff are amazing, very kind, accomodating, friendly and go above and beyond the call of duty. The hotel is small and cozy with a great hot tub, fireplace and sitting area. Continental breakfast is served daily which is great and very convenient. Rooms are also nice and very clean, each one is different. The restaurant right on site is also great. The van takes us right up to chair 2 and we ski right back to the hotel. We are Canadian and have gone back for the past three years. It is our favorite place to stay in Whitefish and a wonderful way to ski and relax!!!

Our family have been staying at Kandahar for the past 6 years. The location is great, and the staff is awesome! This year they included a continental breakfast which exceeded our expectations.

WOW! ... All the ammenities of some of the finest ski resort properties in the world in which I've stayed, BUT at a fraction of the cost, AND with a much warmer, friendly, welcomed approach. Between the always-caring staff, the 5-Star restaurant - Cafe Kandahar (recent James Beard finalist!), the attention to every detail, ski-in/(boot-across-the street) ski-out, a lobby fireplace to die for, the Snug Bar, the finest European style espresso bar - Espresso Montano - replete with friendly, concierge-like Barista's, WHEN CAN WE RETURN TO THIS HEAVEN? What I haven't mentioned, is the town of Whitefish - particularly it's people - are a throw-back to the caring, laid-back lifestyle that I grew up in 56 years ago! Whitefish Mountain Resort is truly a world-class ski resort, but keep your diamond-studded Rolex's and fur coats at home: This is a down-to-earth place that offers everything from the best children's instructors in North America, a 3.2 mile long blue cruiser ("HellFire"), groomed blues galore ("Inspiration", "Tony Matt", "Big Ravine", "Moe-Mentum"), and double-blacks that'll make you call your insurance agent to verify your life insurance premium is current before you drop in!

The Kandahar was a nice experience. I stayed in two different rooms while visiting. The loft was very cramped for adults with luggage. There are 2 beds in the loft and they really don't fit well as they are both queen size. Getting past one to get down the stairs can be tricky. There is one night stand in the loft so whoever gets the other bed will have to make one out of their luggage at the foot of the bed. Below the loft there is a queen bed with night stand, a dresser and tv. Very nice down stairs, very cramped up stairs. Also, beware that the lofts are located on the 3rd floor which is actually the 4th floor because there is a Ground floor. There is no elevator. After a few days of skiing the 3rd floor is quite a task if you should forget something and have to go back to your room.

I also stayed on the first floor in a regular room. It was very nice and had no night stands. I made a night stand out of one of the dressers. The bathrooms in both were very well equipped and the room also had a iron and ironing board. Also, the lodge has laundry facilities which only cost 50 cents. The staff is very nice and the lodge provides a shuttle which only takes 3 minutes to get to the bottom of lift 2 both coming and going. There is access to slopes behind the lodge but I didn't try to use them as I heard the conditions at the time were not favorable.

The Wifi was not a strong signal in the rooms but I was able to pick it up in the lobby. Also, it is an unsecured network. Cell phone reception was not very good on the mountain at all. Verizon customers were able to pick up a signal outside but it was not always strong.

Breakfast was not hot, but there was a good variety of bagels, cream cheese, jellies, large muffins, fruit, hard boiled eggs and drinks, juices and coffees. In the afternoon the lodge provided a selection of cookies and coffee.

The lobby in the lodge is very friendly. The other guests seemed to like to congregate there to read books or to chat. It is right across from the little bar which is also a very friendly atmosphere. The restaurant inside the lodge is very formal but without a formal attitude. In other words the staff is formal but the guests are informal. I was able to select from the menu a four course meal or simply pick and choose which parts of the four course meal I wanted, which is what I did. Overall, I was very pleased with the Kandahar Lodge.
