“Not a great experience.”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

My wife and I dine out in pubs at least once a week, sometimes they are average in which case no review, sometimes they a better or worse than average in which case, if I remember, I put a note on here.
We arrived to be told "no mash potatoes and only one steak and Ale pie" it was only just after 12. I did have the last Steak and Ale pie and my wife had the Chicken and Mushroom?. The food was all served in separate dishes on a wooden board I had to ask for plates. The Steak and Ale was OK but no better, my wife left all the chicken out of her pie (it was cooked solid in a microwave) and all the vegetables. The chips were fine in both cases - we were not offered any condiments at all , in short we won't be going back.

“No value for Money”
Reviewed 8 March 2014

Only two vegetarian choices. Chose Ravioli stuffed with peppers. Portion so small it would not have been sufficient for ten year, which, was perhaps as well, as it came with a dressing which was too oily for my liking. Most good eateries can manage at least three vegetarian choices. I was very disappointed and will not eat there again.

“No no no”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

Omg. Spent valentines evening here with my beloved and what a disaster. It's a good job I know her well and we hadn't just met!!!! The food was reasonable despite the lengthy waits, however, the wine as advertised never arrived and was never discussed.... Many people were not happy in the restaurant. The final straw was when we went to pay the bill there was no staff at the bar at all.. Not good for customers!!!. Beware. In fact the only active bar member was a 6 year old boy in his school uniform, sat on a stool at the bar eating a tub of ice cream !!!! I wonder what the local constabulary would think at 10pm night time with him sat at the bar with nobody else in sight.. I finally knew it was time to leave when I went to the toilet and this young lad had taken a customers chair at the bar. I shan't be returning and if this is what happened on valentines night I dread to think what goes on mid week!!!

“Terrible management attitude”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

Having eaten here on several occasions & been really pleased with the quality of the food, we booked for my partner's birthday. There were no other bookings at the time & we reserved a specific table & were assured that we would be able sit there.
On arrival we were shown to a table at the opposite end of the room as another couple was sitting at the table we had requested. When we asked the reason why the table hadn't been allocated to us the only explanation we were offered was that the bookings had been moved around. Interestingly, another table had a reserved marker on it but we were told that we couldn't sit there!
As young, noisy child in a high chair (part of a large family group) was seated immediately next to the table we were offered, we declined to sit there as it was hardly conducive to a quiet romantic meal. The only other option was a table in a cold room with no other diners, although they did offer to light a log fire for us. Again we declined as it would have taken too long to heat the room & there was a complete lack of atmosphere. We ended up walking out & eating elsewhere.
We were so disappointed that I wrote to the manager/owner. They haven't had the courtesy to reply so we (& the many people to whom we had previously recommended the Cavendish) will not be eating there again. The management's poor attitude has obviously filtered down to the staff as shown in their cavalier approach to reservations.
In summary - good food but don't risk booking for a special occasion.
