We recently visited Kingsdown and fancied a pub meal so thought we'd try this pub - we were told they were family friendly so we headed on down. We were expecting a cosy, friendly, local - but found the reception a bit frosty - a high chair had been provided but it was filthy. The food was simple but really good - massive portions and well cooked and the waitress was nice and friendly - it was just a shame that the bar person who greeted us on entry wasn't more welcoming and made us feel like we were intruding. We also ate at the Zetland Arms and would definitely recommend visiting there for fantastic food and a much warmer welcome!

We have been here several times now and find the meal most acceptable - very generous and well cooked. We have always had the breaded plaice which is especially good and the chips are 'real' chips and very moreish! We will certainly return when visiting friends again in this area

Food and atmosphere is great. Handy if you are staying at Kingsdown park. The old skittles alley in the garden is a nice touch.

This is a friendly locals pub that serves ordinary, reasonably priced pub food. We visited on a saturday night at 8pm and found there was only us and one other table eating food so it did seem incredibly quiet. It is a total contrast to the Zetland Arms round the corner which has just had an up-market makeover (reflected in the prices) and which I noticed was totally full to bursting! Maybe the Rising Sun needs a bit of a facelift, I'm not sure because having eaten in both recently I think I prefer it! Walk past the Zetland and come here, you may even get to stroke the beautiful Ginger Cat.

Fantastic welcome a stones throw from the beach. Hearty food and real ale. Worth the walk past the Zetland Arms.
