At last the Queens head in Blyford is in the hands of a pair of true foodies. Suffolk is the county for food and no one understands local producenbetter than Matt the new landlord.
The transformation of the pub has been immediate. Fans of Matt's food, Hannah's coffee and Callum's inimitable bar tendering have been flocking in.
I live locally and have trouble finding excuses not to go there. The menu changes all the time, but the pork and apple burger, pork belly and steak are phenominal. In fact I can't fault it.
Just brilliant. You will need to book. Don't get it confused with The Queens head at Bramfield up the road.
Enjoy it. We do.

I used to frequent this pub/restaurant quite frequently but for various reasons I have not been there for some months.

I went there with a friend last evening and noted that with the car park being quite full, we might have difficulty in getting a table. But no, only three tables were occupied and we readily seated. There was a man sat on a bar stoll and he was using his mobile phone. He spoke very loudly and my friend and I had difficulty in hearing each other. We drew the waitresses attention to this but she did nothing so after about 15 minutes of overhearing this very loud conversation mxied with various expletives, my friend then took it to ask this guy to tone down his conversation. He went outside but we could still hear him from inside!

Our food was indifferent. Mt friend had a charred-grilled vegetarian dish but most of the veggies were sagging and slightly soggy. My charred chicken with harissa was OK but nothing more than this, On this basis, we decided not to have a desert or coffee.

Talking to the waitress, we learned that the present incumbents have only been there for three weeks. Only three tables were occupied. They will have to sharpen up their act fast because if they are not busy on a pleasant evening in June, it is going to be a long adn cold winter.

We'll not return. There are other better places within a few miles of the Queens Head.

What a strange review.

Thanks for your advice and warnings of dire consequence, doom and gloom it is duly noted. We will of course heed your advice and act upon your suggestions to sharpen up and learn from the terrible mistake we made in the very short time you were with us before the very depths of winter are upon us and the white walkers of Dunwich steal our very souls whilst we sleep. We have of course banished the man you talk of who so dishonoured us with his patronage to the depths of Mordor... or Saxmundham which ever we find first.

I am truly sorry you didn’t enjoy the food, feel free to frequent the other establishments you mention. Our doors are shut and marked with an X

We knew that the Queens Head was under new management so decided to give it a try. This was a good move as the food was lovely and although the menu was limited, the owners had only been there for two weeks and were still finding their feet.
The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
The food was a mix of the usual pub food, fish and chips and burgers but there were some different dishes including a vegetarian one. The service was good,we didn’t have to wait too long between courses.
For our starters we had the panko prawns with a chilli dipping sauce which was divine and asparagus with a poached egg. For our mains we had fish and chips, lemon sole and a pork burger.
We will definitely be returning.

8 of us went to the Queens Head for Sunday lunch in celebration of a friends birthday. The pub is very charming with a thatched roof and lots of beams. The food was excellent (Roast pork with all the trimmings) and the service was leisurely - the 2 front of house staff did a sterling job on such a busy and sunny day. £35 per person for 3 courses including drinks. There are blue tits nesting in the ash can by the front door - amazing!

Friendly staff and good service reasonably priced and as it's now under new management I would have thought they could finally cater for vegitarians very poor selection well if you can call one dish a selection....adnams really need to do better as it looks bad on there brand but if your not bothered by veggie food you will probably enjoy your meal

Hi there

Thanks for your review and for the positive elements in particular. As you kindly mention we have just changed hands, in fact 9 days before you eat so so please excuse the slightly limited menu.

Watch this space.

Actually, we are all very keen on vegetarian food and as people with an ethos aimed directly at growing and producing our own vegetables, fruit and herbs on our small holding adjacent to the pub we will, I can assure you change your view of us. Our chef is vegetarian himself and is working on many dishes to bring to the menu that will prove we are anything but limited in our imagination for vegetarian cooking as your slightly limited snapshot suggests.

Please do keep an eye on our menu changes, and I as I say, watch this space.

Many thanks

Matt & Hanna
