Although we were there on a summer Saturday morning, we found that the zoo was not over-crowded. There were areas for the children to feed goats and lamas, pet a number of small animals. Make sure to see the butterfly house, it's quite nice. The staff is very kid-friendly. It's a small zoo, so you can see everything in a few hours (so kids don't lose interest). The food is not great, so, I suggest going before or after lunch.
