“Choo Choo with a View!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

For the train lover in all of us! Purchase a ticket to go up in the tower to overlook the train yard for the Union Pacific Railroad. All kinds of things to see and volunteers to answer your questions about the trains. There is an elevator to take you up to the 7th and 8th floors so it is accessible to people who can't climb the stairs (in fact most people do ride the elevator). A fun place to go check out while in North Platte.

“Excellent view / Fun and Informative!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised to learn so much about the Bailey Yard and its functions. The view from the tower is excellent and there is a guide at the top to answer questions or just talk about anything you want to know about trains and / or the Bailey Yard. We learned so much and talked about North Platte for days every time we saw or heard a train. If you are traveling through this part of Nebraska, it is well worth the stop!

“Golden Spike Tower.....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We stopped at the Golden Spike Tower as part of the Nebraska Passport Stamp Tour and paid $30.00 (2 adults and 3 children) to ride an elevator up to the top of the tower to look out over the largest train yard. If you are a lover of trains, then this experience will be well worth the money. $30.00 for me is way too much for the 10 minutes we were there. Service was very friendly and the tower was very clean.

“A great viewing point.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

We visited the Golden spike while in North Platte for the rodeo,it proved to be an excellent viewing point for the Union Pacific Bailey Yard,in fact as the yard is so huge this is the only way to see it .Watching the coaches being sorted into the trains they were needed in was amazing as it was all done by gravity. The exhibits down stairs are also well worth taking time to see ,help yourself to a free coffee and watch the story of the North Platte canteen set up by the local people during the war to cater for the troop trains , a truly moving experience.
