“We drove 23 hours to get here, and weren't sorry”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

Now, we find railroads interesting, and had read the fine article about Bailey Yard in Trains magazine before visiting, and that helped us enjoy our visit.

The tour bus left from Cody Park during Railfest and drove through Bailey Yard while the tour guide narrated. There was one 20 min. stop at the diesel repair garage, where several beautifully restored "heritage" diesel engines were on display. Other than that, we remained on the bus while it drove through the yard.

Our tour guide had recently retired from Union Pacific after 27? years. His long service, insider perspective, and obvious love of railroads, made for interesting stories about the various places in the yard.

The sound system on the bus was turned up too high; it made me wince a couple of times. Photography while on the bus was difficult due to reflections on the windows.

We were pleased to be able to see this enormous operation up close and watch the trains being built up.

“Wow what a site....a must see rail fans”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

What a super place to visit. We were there for railfest 2013 and had a two hour bus tour interior yards, work places, etc. it was the best one we ever had. I have never been so close up to the inner workings...and the "hump" was fascinating. What a treat! Unfortunately this special day only happens once a year by appointment only! If you are a rail fan and have the chance...GO!!!

“Definitely worth the stop!”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

I'm not a huge train enthusiast but my husband is so we stopped. I'm glad that we did!!! The Union Pacific railroad is well known all over the country and this is one of their largest rail yards for connecting cars, fixing engines, etc.

A brief 5-10 minute video upon arrival explains the workings of the huge trains that we all see and a little about Bailey Yard. A short trip then up the elevator takes you to the observation deck where you can take in the sights and sounds of the Union Pacific Railroad at work.

“A Tour of Bailey Yard is recommended.”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

We toured the huge Bailey Yard by buse during the RailFest and enjoyed it. This is Union Pacific's largest rail yard in the nation and there are miles of tracks within the yard and so much more than seen from a disance. The tour guide explained what happens at different buildings and tracks as we went. Well worth touring when in NP. Also the Golden Spike tower outside the fence is worth going through for the history and for a bird's eye view of the yard.

“Fascinating place to tour”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

We were able to take a bus tour of the yard during Rail Fest. The tour guide (UP employee) was knowledge and interesting. We would recommend coming to Rail Fest next year if they offer the tour.
