“Good dog-friendly hotel”
Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed the night in Ogallala on a cross-country road trip with a dog and needed somewhere pet-friendly and preferably by the highway. The staff was very sweet and helpful, and the hotel looked much nicer than we had anticipated. Our room didn't seem like it had been used in a while since the door stuck so much to the point that we thought we had the wrong room, a slightly unpleasant odor, and a fair amount of flies. It wasn't so awful that we complained, but it didn't seem to fit in with how pleasant everything else seemed.

There was a pet fee, which was under $20 (can't remember the exact number). They also had a lot of grass that the dog could use and mentioned there was a bigger area where he could get some exercise.

We were very impressed with this hotel that is situated right off of I 80. Clean and comfortable rooms with a great restaurant next door.

The free breakfast featured egg and ham on a nice soft bagel with juice and coffee. It was the perfect start to the day.

We had a king bed in the rear of hotel. It had a memoryfoam topper and was very comfortable. The room was clean and the A/C worked very well. grout in bathroom a bit tired but overall very excellent night's sleep. Breakfast was very good with fresh fruit and hot and cold cereals and pastries, waffles and bagels. A good bargain all around.

This property has served as a nice pit stop before heading to extreme NW or SW Nebraska. The property has a bar and grill located right by the property that has pretty good food but doesn't like to stay open that long if the place isn't as full as the bartender would like. Rooms have always been very clean. The break was good but the breakfast are is small. Very good hotel for the price.

We booked this hotel for both legs of a cross-country trip. I inadvertently booked the wrong date for the return trip, using the AAA website. When I realized my error, I called AAA to ask their help in getting the date changed. After the AAA employee called the hotel to make the change, she told me that the woman (Karen) with whom she had spoken at the hotel had been very reluctant and uncooperative but that she had said she would make the change. The AAA employee encouraged me to call the next day to request a confirmation from the hotel. Instead, I went online the next day and confirmed that the change had been made.

When we arrived at the hotel on the outward-bound portion of our trip, it must have been Karen who checked us in. Surely the hotel wouldn't have two employees like that. She checked us in with efficiency, if not friendliness. Then I explained that we had decided to take another route on our return trip and would like to cancel the reservation for that date, which was three weeks out. She looked in her computer, then told me that I had made the reservation online and that I would have to cancel it online. She couldn't do it. Well, fortunately, I had brought a computer with me, so I made the cancellation. I just found her attitude irritating.

Now, as for the hotel itself, it was fine. The room smelled fresh, and the beds were comfortable. The wireless internet worked well. There was a nice table for working at the computer, with two rather elegant-looking accent chairs that were a good height for using the computer. One of those chairs, though, had a wobbly leg that looked as if it could be hazardous if someone were to actually sit on it.

We found only one bar of soap in the room, so my husband went down to the desk to ask for another that we could use in the shower. They told him that there was a soap dispenser on the wall in the tub area, but they did give him some more soap. When we arrived, there were a lot of guys hanging around outside, calling loudly to each other. The noisy neighbors continued to have some loud conversations outside our door off and on, well into the night; but we slept well, with the help of sleep medicine. The shower was painful. There didn't seem to be any way to adjust the water flow to soften the impact in our skin. The breakfast was very good and included genuine hot oatmeal, not instant.

We would probably try to find another place to stay next time, just because of the desk clerk. Otherwise, our experience was fine.

This is an older motel with several wings. It's located next to a truck stop but we had a room at the back of the building and heard no noise at all. The rooms have obviously been updated, are nicely decorated and clean. It's a two story building with no elevator but most of the upstairs rooms open onto a balcony. If you have a room at the back of the building, you need to park in the front or on the side and walk around - walkways are covered though. There is an indoor and outdoor pool but the indoor pool and whirlpool (whirlpool only open in the evenings) must be accessed from the outside or walk to the lobby and then walk thru the building to the pool.
The breakfast was definitely above average - ham, pancakes, oatmeal, several kinds of fresh fruit and breakfast burritos in addition to the usual waffles, toast, dry cereals, hard boiled eggs etc.

From the outside, this hotel didn't look too spectacular. However, the rooms and lobby areas were meticulously maintained, updated and extremely clean! The room was large and comfortable. I would recommend a stay in this hotel to anyone staying the night in Ogalalla.
