On the recommendation of the local manager of our VRBY in Guanajuato, we took a taxi to a ceramics "factory" in this small village about 20 minutes outside of town. It turned out to be the best of many fun experiences we had in and around Guanajuato.
Entering the showroom, we were stunned by the stacks of brightly colored, hand-painted, and beautiful ceramic dishware, pitchers, vases, and more on display. We spent over an hour joyfully browsing the shelves, and then we each made the major purchase of our trip, which we had shipped. We also visited the factory and watched a roomful of women painting more ceramic ware by hand.
It took over two weeks for our purchases to arrive (due to a delay at US customs, I'm sure), but they had all been packed so carefully not a single delicate item in either shipment was damaged. No I have a beautiful set of dishes to remind me of a great trip. If you have any interested in Mexican craftwork, I highly recommend visiting this factory.
