“A beautiful and unique experience ”
Reviewed 20 January 2014 via mobile

From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Liv, Eddie and James are warm and inviting and ensured that we were relaxed and comfortable at throughout our stay.
They embraced our little ones with affection and ensured that they were very well fed! Eddie always had time for a dance with our little son, whilst cooking his trademark exquisite delicacies!
Liv engaged the children throughout the stay, with visits to the local animals. The children were extremely happy!
James ensured that we got the most out of our skiing experience and took the time to show us the surrounding villages and resorts. His wealth of experience and knowledge about the mountains and the ski conditions is unsurpassed. Most importantly, James is wonderful company!
Every space within l'ancienne poste is beautifully decorated, in particular the lounge area where we spent much time by the roaring fire, sharing great laughs.
This is a unique experience. I have never felt so at home whilst on holidays and would return again and again. I'd be very keen to visit during the summer season also.
If you want to have a holiday filled with adventure, outstanding cuisine and wonderful atmosphere, then look no further.
Thanks you, James, Liv and Eddie.

L’Ancienne Poste is a truly beautiful, luxurious lodge set in stunning surroundings. From the minute you arrive James and his team make you extremely welcome. Their attention to detail is second to none and everything at the lodge is finished to an exceptional standard.

As we arrived we were greeted by a huge roaring fire in the charming main lounge. Large leather sofas, cosy throws, canapés and drinks welcomed us and marked the start of our fantastic week at L’Ancienne Poste.

The rooms are beautifully designed, spacious and have breath taking views of the mountains and valley. It is impossible not to switch off and relax. It really is the perfect place to enjoy outdoor life, the amazing mountains, magnificent scenery…….and, of course, to ski!

James is a fantastic and intuitive ski instructor. He sees immediately what is required to improve technique and he is incredibly patient. He is an excellent instructor.

The food throughout the week was better quality than that found in top rated restaurants. As a vegetarian I was blown away by the delicious, nutritious, exciting and varied meals that Eddie prepared especially. Every meal was out of this world and both the meat eaters and vegetarians alike raved about every meal.

When we weren’t skiing we explored the area and nearby ski resorts. We enjoyed going running along the stunning river that runs near the lodge – crystal clear, icy blue water and tons of fresh mountain air! We also loved the nearby beautiful lakes which have great paths to run around. This has to be the perfect mountain location.

We had the most amazing time. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at L’Ancienne Poste…….and are super keen to return

We have just recently returned from this holiday and still cannot get over how perfect the time was.
From the minute you arrive you relax in the very comfortable and superbly renovated house. James is on hand to cater for anything you would ever need, Eddie prepares the most amazing food straight to your plate and Olivia is the perfect host.
The whole time there was everything we needed to recharge and forget about the day to day chores. This mountain region is stunning and never runs out of activities to keep both young and slightly older busy.
We cannot rate James and his team highly enough and are already counting down the weeks to return in the winter for some quality skiing with our own personal ski guide!

I've been to L'Ancienne Poste in the summer with my family and on my own in the winter for some solo skiing time. Both trips have been brilliant and were exactly what the doctor ordered. James is an extraordinarily attentive host - everything is done to perfection but also with great good humour and fun. He's an excellent skiing coach so the winter trip was a joy - three days of intensive but fun skiing, gently pushing me beyond my comfort zone and getting me to do stuff I swore I would never do! And the place lends itself perfectly to crashing out - blazing log fires, great food and unending supplies of fine wine all help at the end of a tiring day! It's the perfect antidote to modern life! Happily the summer trip with the family was equally as good - the landscape offers a completely different round of possibilities and James is great at wrangling the kids (of all ages) off the couch and out into the great outdoors. We were all tired but very happy at the end of it, and both my wife and I remarked on the fact that there was no bickering for nearly a week! Highly recommended and we'll definitely be going back!

Room Tip: It's a small place. James only has nice rooms.

L'Ancienne Poste takes the concept of the catered and guided ski-chalet and raises it to a new level. It brilliantly adapts to become the perfect base for an all year round activity holiday. We had the most amazing two weeks of biking through stunning scenery on some of the classic Cols of the Tour de France, canyoning down rivers in Spain, scootering down ski slopes and relaxing in the local spa. James is the perfect host for adults and children alike. It is like having your kids favourite uncle along who never runs out of energy, ideas and enthusiasm including climbing, tree top assault course, tennis, making bows and arrows or even driving the support car for cyclists. So when you fancy some downtime, James is very happy to take the kids off on another adventure. And then there is Eddie. So after a full day of action at whatever level you fancy, Eddie will have spent the day preparing a fabulous feast from local produce as simple or haute cuisine as you request. He is a great chef and the very high standard of the catering made a big impact on our stay. It was a truly memorable holiday and we can't wait to return to the stunning Pyrenees - skiing next time!

What a find this place is! Its location and views are stunning and the accommodation is luxurious and tasteful. James is the perfect host, giving every guest his personal attention and offering advice on activities and walks. We went in August and the weather was amazingly hot for a mountainous region with beautiful blue skies nearly every day. I am sure this would be a fantastic place for skiers as James is a qualified and very experienced ski instructor and the lodge is very cosy with log burners in both lounges.
Eddie, the chef, produced cordon bleu food every evening for dinner! I have never eaten so well on holiday. His creations were varied, delicious and beautifully presented. He always came in to talk to us about the menu at the start of dinner. Breakfast was spot on too!
These two lovely guys gave my friend and I a wonderful break in a beautiful region and we can't wait to go back! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Room Tip: Talk to James about your needs. He has different types of rooms. He is hoping to add a swimming pool...

Having been in both the summer and the winter to this location, I can say it makes an excellent base to go to a number of ski resorts; and lots of summer activities too.

The property is kept to a very high standard, the rooms are well equipped and the staff are incredibly helpful.
James, the owner, was a fabulous ski guide, was very knowledgable of the area which all led to us having a really fantastic holiday.
