We offer a range of catering options and have our own marquee. Our team are handpicked for their personality, professionalism and ability to provide first class customer care. Wherever possible, we use local suppliers so that we can offer our customers fresh, locally sourced produce. Our role in the community is important to us and we take every opportunity to reduce our impact on the environment and our neighbourhood.Conveniently situated five minutes off the A303 and A37 The Red Lion is a perfect stop.

“Good service with an original menu”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

On the recommendation of our super B&B - Church Byres at South Barrow - we enjoyed a lovely evening meal here. It was Friday night and so we were looking forward to the pizzas they cook in their authentic oven. Unfortunately these were not on the menu that evening, however I enjoyed a vegetarian platter and my husband's ham, egg & chips were very tasty. Despite the number of fellow diners, the friendly service was very efficient too. And the bar is dog-friendly.

“Gorgeous pub with lovely atmosphere”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

We stayed at the Red Lion on 5th August 2014 for one night. I visited the pub 44 years ago with my Dad and was so pleased it had only changed for the better. The dining area has been added on 10 years ago but apart from that still had the wonderful feel of an old but well kept village pub.
The downside of our stay was the noise from the room above ours. There is no sound insulation in the separate building they have converted into six rooms. The rooms are spotlessly clean and large but the stomping around of the person staying in the room above meant I only slept when he did and woke up as soon as he got up in the morning. I could even hear him in the bathroom! I did report this to the staff when checking out. Such a shame as it did take the shine off the stay. Food was fine if a bit pricey for what was on offer. My husband had the sirloin steak which was on the small side but nicely presented. Full English breakfast was very tasty!

“Unimpressed”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

The Red Lion is an attractive group of buildings with a pretty garden. It was welcoming and busy on the Saturday evening we visited with friends.

Our table in the dining room was large enough for 4 and drinks and menus quickly arrived. The starters were either large platters to share or a limited range of top price plates. 3 of us chose starters which were fine.

The mains were leek tartlet, very small, chicken and risotto served on a slate, pork belly which was the best choice although mustard mash should taste of mustard. and fish and chips served on a wooden board so big it wouldn't fit on a perfectly adequate sized table. I dislike food served on boards, I think they are unhygienic as the cannot be scalded as plates are. My meal had rather oily chips in a bucket, a ramekin of peas, a ramekin of tartare sauce and a greasy piece of battered fish. I needed a seperate table for all of these items!

However the egg custard tart which 3 of us chose was delicious but was so mean a portion it was insulting.

Coffee was served without being asked which coffees we would like so they had to be sent back.

The bill was expensive for food and wine which was quite ordinary. Service was cheerful if somewhat haphazard. Not a place to rush back.
