By and large I like this place. I've stayed here twice, both times in the rooms facing the street. The rooms are quite nice (large and well appointed) and clean. The bed works and so does the shower/bath. The price is quite reasonable and folks running the place are helpful and pleasant. Breakfast consists of a sweet roll, packaged oatmeal and coffee/tea.

The walls between the rooms are thin and you can hear your neighbors. Typically I can overcome this by turning on the heater/air conditioner. This was not an option because (1) in my room only the air conditioning portion of the unit was working (heat was being provided by a base board heater) and (2) the outdoor temperature was in the 30 degree range at night. So, my neighbors 4:00 a.m. wake up call became mine. Lose the base board and fix the heater and maybe this issue goes away.

Room Tip: Try to stay in units 1 through 6.

We couldn't find any hotels in Beatty (about 30 mins of Death Valley East entrance) on hotels.com and booked this one via their own reservation system. This worked all fine. The rooms are sets of 3 in a mobile home type of building elevated from the floor. It was big and had all the appliances. The free internet works on a code you get at the office. If too much people use it it doesn't work. Staff was helpful to give us another code which worked fine. In high season this might be a problem, now it wasn't even crowded and internet was already jammed.
Downside is that when you flush the toilet a real annoying sound comes up. Bed was big and fine.
Would stay here again!

Room Tip: Try to get a unit on the side and not one in the middle

We brought a party of 46 persons to The Atomic Inn and we were pleasantly surprised in the improvements from our stay in 2013. The refurbished rooms in the front were very nicely done. One thing for sure, this place has character and will return. The management tried very hard to make things nice for us. We were even entertained by a burrow who came right up to the porch and stood there looking at us until we fed him an apple. He nodded his appreciation and moved on.
Give this place a try. Its fun!!!!!

Room Tip: Get the rooms on the first row.

Beds are like sleeping on a box spring. Water stinks like sulphur and burns your eyes and hard to breathe when trying to shower or use any water for that matter. Chairs and carpet covered in stains. Bathroom was gross, shower all stained, grout pulling away from floor. Microwave works well. Bath towels are hand towel size. Comforter did not look good. We tried to get an upgraded room but were told they were sold out but we never saw more than 2 cars in the parking lot. Wifi works well. Location is good for park. Motel was so uncomfortable though, bed was like sleeping on concrete and water was awful. Needs major overhaul.

We stayed here for couple of nights during our visit to the Death valley NP. We are budget traveller and always prefer small family owned motels over the chain ones. Most of the cases the small inns turns out to be fabulous but this was not the case for Atomic Inn. We checked in in a cold winter evening after hiking in the Death Valley. All we wanted was a hot shower and a good nights sleep. But hot water never came to our room (room 38). I complained to the front desk and somebody came and told that water will heat up but it will take time. Two hours passed but no luck. Then I requested them to change the room. They did, but we realized later that it was a smoking room though we specifically asked for a non smoking one. More trouble waited when we came back from the park next day. The house keeping did not clean the room and put fresh tissues/towels in the toilet. I rushed back and the owner promptly said that they don't clean unless it's requested. She showed me that its mentioned in the lobby in an A4 size notice. I am OK with that, but this generally does not happen in other places, so she should have pointed it to me clearly while checking in. However, she gave me fresh towels immediately.
The location of the motel is good and the rooms are spacious. They have coffee and muffins in the morning. Beatty is a small place and all the food options are nearby. There are couple of saloons, subway and a Dennys. Also, a Rebel gas station is just next door to the motel. The place needs to work hard to reduce inconsistency of different travellers experiences. The rooms does not have installed heating, they just provide small plug in heaters - which is definitely not good enough for a bigger room in winter nights.

Room Tip: Avoid room 38
