Owner description: The Nevada Northern Railway is a non-profit historical foundation whose mission is to maintain and operate what has been acclaimed as the best preserved railroad facility in the United States. Come, enjoy history with us! We offer 90 minute train rides up toward the historic Ruth Copper Mine, as well as a view into the history of what put this mining town on the map. Don't miss the included tour of the Engine House and yard after the train ride. You can see the facility that has been servicing these steam locomotives for over a century now. For the serious rail fan, we offer the opportunity to be at the throttle (and brakes!) Of a real, standard-gauge, steam locomotive on your own private run "up the hill."

“If you like old trains and rail yards you will love this place”
Reviewed 23 September 2010

The train only runs for a few miles but the trip and tour afterwards is a very pleasant half day excursion, we did this in the morning and Great Basin National Park / Lehman Caves in the afternoon. Riding the train feels like you are in the old wild west. The rail yard is also interesting with loads of old buildings, locos etc.

“Bar-B=Que train”
Reviewed 20 September 2010

If you wish to take a train ride please enjoy yourself but I'd avoid the evening bar-b-que train ride. Once you figure in the cost of the train ride plus the cost of the meal you pay way too much for too little. The food was very dissapointing both in quality and quantity.

“Nice little trip”
Reviewed 14 August 2010

Typical little tourist train ride. The negative thing is the their website. The schedule is usually wrong. We were suppose to have the steam engine according to the web site but the schedule at the station said diesel. It wasn't a last minute change either. Booking a ticket through the website also tacks on handling fees and doesn't tell you about the AAA discount. We bought the tickets at the station.

“Working rail yard and wonderful staff!”
Reviewed 6 July 2009

The Musem of the Northen Nevada Rail way is pretty cool because in encompasses the the whole rail yard, which is a working rail yard. so you get to see how how the operation runs, which pretty neat. we went on the 4th of july train which included bbq and the train ride with Ely fire works at the end from the view of the train. My only complain is that they used a coach car, one of three, that did not have seats in it so they brought in chairs. however that particular coach was over a hundred years old!!! Anyways the staff was great and very informative.
